Editorial reviews

Narrator Shannon McManus keeps up a thrilling pace with her performance of this series about seven warring dragon tribes locked in an ancient battle over a lost treasure. The secret society Talons of Peace plans to end the fighting by raising five dragonets from different tribes to fulfill a prophecy of peace. However, the dragonets leave to look for their original home and are captured by the SkyWing queen. McManus avoids getting in the book's way with unnecessary frills and goes straight to the action, detailing the dragonets' attempts to escape with breathless excitement.

Publisher's Summary

A thrilling new series soars above the competition and redefines middle-grade fantasy fiction for a new generation!

The seven dragon tribes have been at war for generations, locked in an endless battle over an ancient, lost treasure. A secret movement called the Talons of Peace is determined to bring an end to the fighting, with the help of a prophecy - a foretelling that calls for great sacrifice.

Five dragonets are collected to fulfill the prophecy, raised in a hidden cave and enlisted, against their will, to end the terrible war. But not every dragonet wants a destiny. And when the select five escape their underground captors to look for their original homes, what has been unleashed on the dragon world may be far more than the revolutionary planners intended.

really cool story!

awesome story but the narrator's voice is kind of bad because it is kind of too soft and emotional. but the story was da best!!!
totally recommend it, but if you think this book is too boring then don't loose your patient cause the first 2 books in the series are a bit dull but then the story get's soo interesting that you can't stop listening.

Unacceptable level of violence for the children book

In this book, the overwhelming level of violence, a description of torture, murder and bloody executions. My son was in absolute shock and horror, he was sobbing and could not stop. Is age rating a joke? What is going on here at all?

Wonderful series! Just not the strongest start.

A wonderful book and the start to a fantastic series, definitely worth a purchase!

The only thing I'd like to note is that the performance isn't as strong as it is in later entries. It definitely feels like the narrator is still finding their voice with this one.

Not awful by any means! Just that the audiobooks to follow have much better performances. Even by the second book, there is a noticeable improvement. This series is wonderful, and I hope this slightly weaker entry won't put off listeners from some stellar books to come.

Honestly a great book

Quite honestly, this is a great book that I loved listening to the narration is pitch perfect. I recommend this for 10 years plus. I love how surprising the plot is and all the different characters both good and evil. ( spoilers ) My favourite part of this book is when Clay meets his siblings in the Mud Kingdom, I look forward to reading ( or listening) to the next books.
