Publisher's Summary

An epic story of survival at all odds and one of the most anticipated books of the year. In a ruined and hostile landscape, in a future few have been unlucky enough to survive, a community exists in a giant underground silo. Inside, men and women live an enclosed life full of rules and regulations, of secrets and lies. To live, you must follow the rules. But some don't. These are the dangerous ones; these are the people who dare to hope and dream, and who infect others with their optimism. Their punishment is simple and deadly. They are allowed outside. Jules is one of these people. She may well be the last.

Critic Reviews

"Exhilarating, intense, addictive. A novel you will never forget." (SJ Watson)
"The characters are well-drawn, and even the villains have a sympathetic side. Secrets unfold with just the right pacing, and I had to set the book down several times and say, ‘Wow,’ when a major twist was revealed ... If you're looking for a good read, you can't do much better than Wool." (Rick Riordan, #1 New York Times best-selling author)
"one of the most hotly-anticipated books of 2013." ( Irish Times)
"a small and zippy vehicle with impressive narrative force...[Howey’s] plot twists like a thrashing serpent in a fisherman’s net." ( Sunday Business Post)

Only audiobook I’ve ever listened to twice

Meg

I’m a big fan of post/apocalyptic and dystopian fiction. Loved it more the second time!

Long

Slow to start with but had to stick it out as I had already bought the whole trilogy. Picked up around ch 30 and glad I didn't put it away. Looking forward to the rest. A few people complained about monotone. I loved the voice. It is a serious book, not a famous 5 mystery. I think the narrators voice did it justice.

Very thin story

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

This is a characterless book with totally unplausible situations and ridiculous coincidental occurrences totally unfeasible.

Would you ever listen to anything by Hugh Howey again?

No

How did the narrator detract from the book?

She had a difficult task

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

No this is not for any age group

Any additional comments?

One for the bin

Best choice of reader

The voice is well suited to the story, and even better than me reading it! Thankyou

Interesting twists makes this story hard to put doen

I liked this tale of survival beyond the "end of days" event. The story line flows well most of the time. There are a couple of times where the descriptive narrative goes on a bit too much for my liking, probably to evoke the sense of drama but just a bit too tedious for my liking. Overall a great story. L9king forward to the next book in the series.

A really good post-apocalyptic novel

This book is amazing and warn readers of what could be a future of the humanity. If you have like the Road of Cormac McCarthy, you will enjoy this one

Fantastic Story

This is one of the best books I've ever read, the story is engaging, fantastical, exciting and warm. A great read. Do yourself a favor. I've already got the second in the series, I'm looking forward to that. Narration is spot on too .
