Long before the sword-wielding heroes of legend readily cut down forests, slaughtered the old deities, and vanquished their enemies, there were playful gods, animal-headed kings, mischievous lovers, trickster harpists, and vegetal magicians with flowering wands. As eco-feminist scholar Sophie Strand discovered, these wilder, more magical modes of the masculine have always been hidden in plain sight.

Story
Myth is our wild way of telling the truth, of sharing stories that have our living earth speaking through them. There is an old insistence that we each have a twin we know nothing about. A wild, curious twin that was thrown out the window the night we were born, taking much of our energy with them. This story is a quest to find and court our wild twin, for they have something important to tell us. If there was something we were here to do in our few, brief years, we can be sure that the wild twin is holding the key.

Publisher's Summary
Critic Reviews
"Dr. Estes’s palpable emotional engagement (and obvious desire to speak to those in pain) can be heard in the flowing, calming sound she creates with each interlocking syllable, reflective pause, and change in vocal intensity. The arresting beauty in both her writing and narrative performance will make listeners believe that they can internalize the mother’s ability to soothe themselves and find emotional balance, whether or not they ever received such mothering."
