Why we think it’s a great listen: Never before has an author’s narration of his fiction been so important to fully grasping the book’s impact and global implications. Taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of its monarchy to the present, The Kite Runner is the unforgettable story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul. Their intertwined lives, and their fates, reflect the eventual tragedy of the world around them.

Story
The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works. Told in language of great simplicity and power, it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal, a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts, in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat, of personal triumph won from loss.

Story
One of the 20th century's enduring works, One Hundred Years of Solitude is a widely beloved and acclaimed novel known throughout the world and the ultimate achievement in a Nobel Prize-winning career. The novel tells the story of the rise and fall of the mythical town of Macondo through the history of the Buendía family. Rich and brilliant, it is a chronicle of life, death, and the tragicomedy of humankind. In the beautiful, ridiculous, and tawdry story of the Buendía family, one sees all of humanity, just as in the history, myths, growth, and decay of Macondo, one sees all of Latin America.

Story
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

Editorial reviews
One of the most notable works of dramatic fiction ever written, the Pulitzer Prize-winning To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is here in a complete and unabridged classic American literature audiobook narrated by the brilliant Sissy Spacek in celebration of its 50th anniversary. Through Spacek's perfect narration, Lee's beautifully crafted prose comes to life. You may find you have to pause every so often as you listen to reflect on the overall significance this book has had as a demonstration of human achievements in literature. Available now from Audible.
Publisher's Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
One of the greatest American novels ever written.
Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird.
A lawyer's advice to his children as he defends the real mockingbird of Harper Lee's classic novel - a black man falsely charged with the rape of a white girl. Through the young eyes of Scout and Jem Finch, Harper Lee explores with exuberant humour the irrationality of adult attitudes to race and class in the Deep South of the 1930s. The conscience of a town steeped in prejudice, violence and hypocrisy is pricked by the stamina of one man's struggle for justice. But the weight of history will only tolerate so much.
To Kill a Mockingbird is a coming-of-age story, an anti-racist novel, a historical drama of the Great Depression and a sublime example of the Southern writing tradition.

Loved it
I loved this book when I was a kid, and I haven't read it for a long time, but nonetheless I though I would be revisiting i already knew. What i discovered on the other-hand was that Sissy Spacek's narration added a new dimension to the story that made me fall in love with the characters it all over again.

Sublime
Where does To Kill a Mockingbird rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
One of the most exquisitely crafted tales I've ever read.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The character of Atticus is a hero of integrity and grit, but the teller of the tale - Jean-Louise (Scout) - is so accessible and honest that it's hard to not love her.
Have you listened to any of Sissy Spacek’s other performances? How does this one compare?
Sissy Spacek's delivery is perfect for this story.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I cried and laughed and cried again. I was spellbound. The language is so carefully constructed that you are totally drawn in to a kind of nostalgia. Although, the childhood described in the tale was very different from my own, the incredibly vivid prose and the naive quality of the main character made me feel like I was reliving my own.
Any additional comments?
A powerful, poignant classic, expertly read.
