Publisher's Summary

From the best-selling parenting experts behind The Whole-Brain Child comes a highly successful plan for helping your child become more independent and resilient.

Children can often act out or shut down when faced with a setback or a tricky issue like homework, food or screen time. This is what acclaimed parenting experts Dr Siegel and Dr Bryson call the 'No Brain' response. But you can help your child develop the ability to cope, solve their own problems and thrive by nurturing their 'Yes Brain'.

Drawing on their successful work with thousands of parents and children from all backgrounds, Dr Siegel and Dr Bryson provide the advice, tools and activities to help parents with children of all ages.

This is what the 'Yes Brain' approach looks like in action:

  • A five-year-old boy thinks about his first day at school and says, 'I'm nervous, but I'll give it a try.'
  • An eight-year-old girl says, 'I'd like to join the football team, even though none of my friends like football.'
  • A 14 year-old boy looks at a test he's earned a D- for and says, 'That's not the mark I wanted, but it's not the end of the world. I'll ask the teacher how I can improve.'

Insightful and educational - will refer to this book often

I really like how insightful this book is. I like that, although they go into some detail to explain the science behind the inner workings of a child’s brain, it’s not difficult to understand or overly science-y. I started implementing green zone strategies also immediately and

A little brief. Many references to other works.

Some good concepts here, but I was hoping for a little more substance. I feel like some of this would be better served as being a segment in a larger book, perhaps also combining other referenced works.

It was good I feel like they had some great points but a lot of meandering around it these books could be 2 hours honestly

I feel this is an issue prevalent in this field the go on and on unnecessarily and they could make clear simple points with examples straight away but there’s hours of my life wasted on nonsense here

Another simple & effective parenting guide book

Daniel & Tina's books give a thorough understanding of kids brains & their development. It allows a deep understanding of their minds & emotions. It gives an understanding of how to help kids regulate their emotions & develop mindsight. It gives you a better understanding of your children, to allow a deeper connection & more empathy. Basically, it is a guide for happier & mentally healthier kids, & thus parents. Thanks so much for all that you write. I love all your books Daniel & Tina. I look forward to more.
