Publisher's Summary

The Stranger appears out of nowhere, perhaps in a bar or a parking lot or at the grocery store. His identity is unknown. His motives are unclear. His information is undeniable. Then he whispers a few words in your ear and disappears, leaving you picking up the pieces of your shattered world.

Adam Price has a lot to lose: a comfortable marriage to a beautiful woman, two wonderful sons, and all the trappings of the American dream - a big house, a good job, a seemingly perfect life.

Then he runs into the Stranger. When he learns a devastating secret about his wife, Corrine, he confronts her, and the mirage of perfection disappears as if it never existed at all. Soon Adam finds himself tangled in something far darker than even Corrine's deception and realises that if he doesn't make exactly the right moves, the conspiracy he's stumbled into will not only ruin lives - it will end them.

Not Coben’s best

I usually thoroughly enjoy Harlan Coben, but this is not his best. It was a bit all over the place with an ending that I would rewrite!

Okaaay

Not a bad story but gets a little convoluted in places and a bit sappy at the end. The narrators voice was slightly jarring - particularly when he read children or women's parts.

A well-conceived thriller

American dream turns nightmare with plenty of red herrings served along the way. I think I’d enjoy hearing that the character Adam go in to assist others in a similar predicament… worthy of a sequel. Had to set narration speed to 1.3 to get the slow drawl of the narrator listenable. Thankfully that worked.

thrilling and satisfying

The Stranger by Harlan Coben 3/5

"The Stranger" by Harlan Coben is a thriller that follows Adam Price as he uncovers a devastating secret about his seemingly perfect wife, Corinne. The arrival of a mysterious stranger sets off a chain of events that leads Adam down a puzzling and perplexing path. Coben cleverly weaves together intricate plot twists and memorable characters in this page-turner that will you fully attentive until the very end.
I found the ending of "The Stranger" to be somewhat predictable. While the story contains numerous twists and turns that keep the reader engaged throughout, the ultimate outcome may not come as a complete surprise to those who are well-versed in the thriller genre. However, even if the ending is predictable, the journey to get there is still a thrilling and satisfying ride.
