Publisher's Summary

A funny, joyful, frank and inspiring book about embracing both feminism and our imperfections, from the creator of the hit comedy podcast, Deborah Frances-White.

In 2015 I described myself as 'guilty feminist' for the first time. My goals were noble, but my concerns were trivial. I desperately wanted to close the pay gap, but I also wanted to look good sitting down naked.

From inclusion to the secret autonomy in rom coms, from effective activism to what poker can tell us about power structures, Deborah explores what it means to be a 21st-century feminist and encourages us to make the world better for everyone.

This audiobook also includes exclusive interviews with performers, activists and thinkers - Jessamyn Stanley, Zoe Coombs Marr, Susan Wokoma, Bisha K. Ali, Reubs Walsh, Becca Bunce, Amika George, Mo Mansfied and Leyla Hussein - plus a piece from Hannah Gadsby.

Read by Deborah Frances-White, this audiobook includes live excerpts from The Guilty Feminist podcast, with interviews narrated by Adjoa Andoh and Becca Bunce.

Critic Reviews

"This really is the 'everything you have always wanted to know about feminism but were afraid to ask' manual. From a mind as lucid and witty as it is kind and empathetic comes essential reading for the planet." (Emma Thompson)

Praise for The Guilty Feminist podcast: "'Hilarious, irreverent, eternally surprising, classy as hell, genius comedians... It's shows like this that breathe life into conversations about feminism." (Phoebe Waller-Bridge)

"Tackles issues from democracy to sexuality to porn with a lightness and hilarity that makes even the newly ordained feminist feel at home." (Scarlett Curtis, Sunday Times)

So, so SOOOOO good! Thank-you Deborah!

If you're a fan of the podcast (or you've never even heard of the Guilty Feminist), this book is such a treat. Funny, witty and informative, sometimes frustrating, sometimes sad but always hopeful. This is a brilliant example of how privilege can be harnessed and wielded for something bigger, better and bolder than the status-quo - for the good of all. Go you good thing, Deborah Frances-White!

The book we all need

If everyone could laugh while reading about feminism we wouldn’t need to convince people that they are actually feminists and feminism is not a dirty word. This book is truly fabulous!

Essential listening for any modern woman

All the humour we've come to expect from DFW on the GF pod, with a deeper dive into the theory.

Great listen - Mostly!

I enjoyed this book very much but my one qualm was the interviews within it: Why weren’t they voiced by the person who was actually being interviewed?!? It detracts from the content and when you’re dealing with very familiar voices such as Hanna Gadsby and Phoebe Waller-Bridge and suddenly a terrible fake accent replaces their voices – it’s an awful experience! The interviews with these awesome people are throughout the book so I would have opted to read it in paper copy instead should I have known. Better your imagination than some awful, obviously fake accent/voice replacing them!

Other than that – this book is heavy on advice and feminist lessons and fans of DFW’s podcast of the same name will love it.

Exhale downward facing dog, pause.

I read your book to my yoga students to help them set their intentions for class. You’re very famous.

Must read!!!

Just as good as the podcast, if not better. Quality work that is equal parts humour and insight.

This is a great book.

Deborah Frances-White has an incredible mind. This book weaves together feminist theory, contemporary analyses and real world goals, all the while maintaining DFW's trademark humour. I listen to the Guilty Feminist podcast every week and this book was 90% new content for me. I absolutely loved it.
