Publisher's Summary

At Cold Mountain Penitentiary, along the lonely stretch of cells known as the Green Mile, killers such as "Billy the Kid" Wharton and the possessed Eduard Delacroix await death strapped in "Old Sparky". Guards as decent as Paul Edgecombe and as sadistic as Percy Wetmore watch over them.

But good or evil, innocent or guilty, none has ever seen the brutal likes of the new prisoner, John Coffey, sentenced to death for raping and murdering two young girls. Is Coffey a devil in human form? Or is he a far, far different kind of being?

There are more wonders in heaven and hell than anyone at Cold Mountain can imagine. In The Green Mile, Stephen King builds the tension page by page and then delivers a revelation that will truly blow your mind.

Amazing performance by the narrator!

Compelling story I'm so glad I read. Thoroughly recommended. The movie does a good job, but this is a fantastic tale. A master at his best!

Excellent story and narration

Another winner from King. This is such a thought provoking book, dealing with the moral and legal rights and wrongs of capital punishment and what a person is and is not prepared to do to level the balance of fairness. John Coffey is a masterful creation and Mr Jingles is not easily forgotten. The narrator is perfect for the protagonist. Noting this was originally released in serial form, the pacing is spot on.

Better than the Movie

The bookcovers so many more back stories than the movie. It allows the reader to get a better insight into the characters. I loved the Movie, I loved the book more. Stephen King is a genius.

Highly recommend

Frank Muller was sensational, really drew me into what was already a great story. Its easy to see why it was turned into a movie, one of Stephen King’s best.

Great movie, better book

Unbelievable storytelling by one of the best writers of our time. One of my favourite, go-to movies and have now finally read the book! I was not disappointed.
