One of the 20th century's enduring works, One Hundred Years of Solitude is a widely beloved and acclaimed novel known throughout the world and the ultimate achievement in a Nobel Prize-winning career. The novel tells the story of the rise and fall of the mythical town of Macondo through the history of the Buendía family. Rich and brilliant, it is a chronicle of life, death, and the tragicomedy of humankind. In the beautiful, ridiculous, and tawdry story of the Buendía family, one sees all of humanity, just as in the history, myths, growth, and decay of Macondo, one sees all of Latin America.

Story
Prince Lyov Nikolayevitch Myshkin is one of the great characters in Russian literature. Is he a saint or just naïve? Is he an idealist or, as many in General Epanchin's society feel, an "idiot"? Certainly his return to St. Petersburg after years in a Swiss clinic has a dramatic effect on the beautiful Aglaia, youngest of the Epanchin daughters, and on the charismatic but willful Nastasya Filippovna. As he paints a vivid picture of Russian society, Dostoyevsky shows how principles conflict with emotions - with tragic results.

This collection spans his entire career from his earliest surviving works of childhood to stories completed shortly before his death. Despite enduring hardships we can barely imagine today, Facey always saw his life as a "fortunate" one. A true classic of Australian literature, his simply written autobiography is an inspiration. It is the story of a life lived to the full - the extraordinary journey of an ordinary man.

Piranesi lives in the House. Perhaps he always has. On Tuesdays and Fridays Piranesi sees his friend, the Other. At other times he brings tributes of food to the Dead. But mostly, he is alone.

Publisher's Summary
Tyrant, blackmailer, racketeer, murderer - his influence reaches every level of American society. Meet Don Corleone, a friendly man, a just man, areasonable man. The deadliest lord of the Cosa Nostra. The Godfather.
A modern masterpiece,The Godfather is a searing portrayal of the 1940s criminal underworld. It is also the intimate story of the Corleone family, at once drawn together and ripped apart by its unique position at the core of the American Mafia. Still shocking 40 years after it was first published, this compelling tale of blackmail, murder, and family values is a true classic.

It's true, it is a classic.
The book is really a fantastic read. Even if you have seen the movie. Everything about this audiobook is good also, the narrator is excellent, and had a slight accent which I always like, his pace is great, and your attention is held the whole way through.
I know it's a bit old fashioned, and some of the ideas aren't how I'd like to be personally, but it's the insight the book gives you into something, to the other life. That's the really awesome part it plays.
I've already started downloading the next book in the series!

Masterpiece - Stand-Alone for Puzo's Work
This was an excellent listen, in particular because of the amazing addition of Joe's voice tackling the tones, accents and characteristics of everyone in this book like an absolute boss.
If you read this and want to move onto the second book (The Sicilian) be prepared for disappointment in the quality of the delivery, because Joe sets such a high standard with this book that the others are not in the same league.

a good performance- except for the women
a classic novel, already well reviewed, I can't add anything.
The vocal artist of this audio book did a STELLAR job of the narration, except when it came to the women characters.
He somehow managed to make them all sound simpering, whining, unintelligent, alike and unrealistic.
The male voices however were fantastic and varied, especially the Don.

I’ve loved The Godfather film series for a very long time, always wanted to read what these brilliant films were made from. This book is so captivating, so in depth. This has made me love it even more plus it was read by Joe Mantegna who played Joey Zasa in The Godfather Part 3. Highly recommended!
