Publisher's Summary
New Year's Day, 1990. A soldier is found dead in a sleazy motel bed. Jack Reacher is the officer on duty.
The soldier turns out to be a two-star general. The situation is bad enough, then Reacher finds the general's wife.
This stomach-churning thriller turns back the clock to a younger Reacher, in dogtags. A Reacher who still believes in the service. A Reacher who imposes army discipline. Even if only in his own pragmatic way...

Better and better
Another great book by Lee Child on Reacher. Once again, superbly narrated by Jeff Harding. Jeff really brings the characters to life.

Another great Jack Reacher novel
I’m not really a fan of the first person tale, you always know that the story teller will survive, they have to or they can’t tell you their story. There are ways around it but I usually find those stories clunky and awkward around that point.
The story is well crafted by Lee Child as you can well expect. Now I haven’t been in the American armed forces yet I imagine they operated in the way the author explained. It wouldn’t surprise me to find out that they did. There were a few times I thought that the direction Reacher wasn’t travelling was blatantly obvious and I wanted to shout at him but I’m thinking with the mindset of people living in 2022 not 1990 and let that part go. The ending was decent enough and people got what they deserved and Reacher went on. I enjoyed the narration even though the narrator has limited voices in his repertoire, after all he has many more than I do.
A great book in my opinion.. 4 stars

Stunning plot
Intracally woven storyline that challenges the reader to pick out the clues. Twists and turns throughout. A sheer pleasure to read. Sad for Reacher but he always does the right thing. What a good guy. Thanks Lee and Jeff.

Good background
Not much action but still a worthy read. Getting some insight into Reacher's character and why he does what he does is pretty helpful. Looking forward to the next instalment.

Down and personal with Jack Reacher
Loved hearing more about Jacks history and how he was formed into the person he is.
Lots of twists with the actual story which keeps you interested and glued to the book.

Become addicted to Reacher.
I am truly becoming addicted to Reacher. Just when you think you got it, the suspect changes. Best yet is when you don't find the suspect, and when Reacher lays it out, you think to yourself,'How did I miss that?'.

Flash Back Time
I'm slowly working my way through Lee Child's offerings and that includes his Reacher novels. The Enemy is an important chapter of the Reacher story. Not only because it shows where some of his values come from and his desire to do the right thing, but it also highlights a darker side to Jack Reacher in his execution of justice and where it may have originated. I was shocked at the ending but not really surprised. I love the detail of the weapons and the ballistics captured in this book.
Jeff Harding, need I say more. If he's 6'5", I'm sure he's Jack Reacher. If he's not, he's a brilliant voice actor.
