the first book was so good what happened

I very disappointed in the direction these books have taken. I was completely ok with this being a book about humans vs elf's, it didn't need the sci-fi background and I'm so over the random out of context flash backs that raise more questions than they answer. it was great in the first book but now it too much and just hinders story progression. there is also too many chapters that don't contribute to the story they feel like filler just there to add length to the story.
