Cat's Cradle is Vonnegut's satirical commentary on modern man and his madness. An apocalyptic tale of this planet's ultimate fate, it features a little person as the protagonist; a complete, original theology created by a calypso singer; and a vision of the future that is at once blackly fatalistic and hilariously funny.

Ragle Gumm has a unique job: Every day he wins a newspaper contest. And when he isn’t consulting his charts and tables, he enjoys his life in a small town, in 1959. At least, that’s what he thinks. But then strange things start happening. He finds a phone book where all the numbers have been disconnected, and a magazine article about a famous starlet named Marilyn Monroe, whom he’s never heard of. Plus, everyday objects are beginning to disappear and are replaced by strips of paper with words written on them, like "bowl of flowers" and "soft-drink stand".

Follow The Marked Path..
- By Peter on 14-12-2016
Publisher's Summary
A mind-bending, classic Philip K. Dick novel about the perception of reality.
Named as one of Time's 100 best books.
Glen Runciter runs a lucrative business - deploying his teams of anti-psychics to corporate clients who want privacy and security from psychic spies. But when he and his top team are ambushed by a rival, he is gravely injured and placed in "half-life," a dreamlike state of suspended animation. Soon, though, the surviving members of the team begin experiencing some strange phenomena, such as Runciter's face appearing on coins and the world seeming to move backward in time. As consumables deteriorate and technology gets ever more primitive, the group needs to find out what is causing the shifts and what a mysterious product called Ubik has to do with it all.

One of the best books ever written!
I loved this book more than any book I have read. It's amazing, scary, very paranoid and soooooo much fun. I never understood why some people love the world of books like lord of the rings so much n want to keep going back. UBIK is like that for me. It's amazing.

Pretty good but not great
This book started out pretty good but then lost my interest somewhere in the middle. The writing is good, aside from the use of some eyebrow-raising adverbs like someone saying something “frowningly” and some passive ways of saying things that would have been better with more active verbs, like how a feeling of pain “departed” rather than “eased”. I finished it and I’ll read more of Dick’s books, but I wasn’t overwhelmed with this story. The narrator did a very good job and has an impressive range of unique voices for different characters.
