Publisher's Summary

The Blood Angels Chapter of Space Marines is under threat. Having obliterated all human life in the Red Scar region of space, the largest tendril of Hivefleet Leviathan ever seen in the Imperium has converged and is making relentlessly for Baal.

To face this awesome foe, Commander Dante has called upon the Successor Chapters of the ancient Ninth Legion. The Sons of Sanguinius gather in numbers not seen since the dark days of the Horus Heresy. Thirty thousand Space Marines stand ready to thwart the Great Devourer, save the homeworld of their primarch, and prevent the consumption of billions in the Ultima Segmentum beyond.

But the tyranid swarm numbers in the trillions, and they are not the only danger to the chapter’s future. As the galaxy slides toward a terrifying new era, events far away threaten to unleash a greater evil. A further enemy must also be overcome, that of the Black Rage that lurks in the souls of all Sanguinius’ bloodline.

Worst narrator choice for this book

Gareth has all the emotion of a robot, which perfect for mechanicum stories. But he is by far the worst choice for a blood angels story. I BARELY got through this book it was so painful. He makes Seth sound like a damn TTS program, not the passionate commander of rage he is. During Dante's final speech, I fucking lost it as every single word Gareth spoke utterly failed to convey ANY gravitas or sense of urgency of Dante's speech, at the fucking pinnacle of the fight, there is ZERO excuses as to why the most important part of the book was rendered into a steaming pile of shit because of the most lack lastere, "I'm just here for the pay check" p e performance I've ever witnessed. This book will forever be marred by this sorry excuse of a performance and a grievous sin to the story of the most impassioned and conflicted forces within the 40k universe. GW, FIX THIS!

After reading reviews and seeing the prologue was missing. I kept scrolling and found it had been added. Great listening, loved the book.

A true hero must project himself my lord...

I feel terrible writing this, but if you like your space marines sounding like elderly Shakespearean actors then this is for you. How they manage pick up a sword let alone swing it is beyond me. I just heard one of them smack his lips like my grandfather. Takes me straight back to the black-adder episode where the actors teach the prince regent public speaking. Mephiston sounds like that bloke who did the original vampire movies. Story is great and it’s worth a listen... just be prepared (and visual the tyrannids as using Zimmer frames - makes the battles plausible)

Warhammer done right!

I cannot recommend this book enough. The story is amazing, but its best read after the Dante novel. It really does have everyone one could want out of a Warhammer novel. Fantastic characters, including Gabriel Seth, Mephiston, and Dante. Void warfare, siege warefare, psychers doing their thing, an amazing side plot involving {redacted}, and the ending sets up the current setting perfectly.

It’s 40k

The twists and surprises. The suspense. The collection of characters, this was a great fall into fandom and hold me gripped at every point

Riveting Listen

As a Tyranids player on the tabletop I was absolutely enthralled by the Tyranid POV-style sections.

The book remained engaging for its entirety and the delivery by Gareth Armstrong was as good as I could have hoped.

Worth noting that this DOES contain the 30th chapter that was absent from some versions of the audiobook on the past.

Engaging story for any true Warhammer 40k Fan

Now I am a Dark Angels fan myself and collect them as my prime armies.

But wow this was a good story, engaging and really showed another side of a lot of characters I had grown up with since the early 2000.

Seeing them fleshed out was unbelievable and I give the book a 10/10.

Not grate

The story was flat and I felt no connection to the characters. They all kept droning on blood this, blood that, if it wasn’t for the primarch turning up at the end it would have been a total loss.
