Story
Down there, beyond the deepest caves, below the crust and the mantle, there is another world. An old woman locked away in a Russian asylum has a secret - knowledge of a 500-year-old manuscript written by a long-dead alchemist that will show a passage to the mythical centre of the Earth. She knows it’s real because 50 years ago, she and a team travelled there. And only she made it back. Today, caving specialist Mike Monroe leads a crew into the world’s deepest cave in the former Soviet Union.

Story
On a desolate beach in far northern Scotland, the winter storms have been washing up all manner of things since time began. But buried in the centre of one smaller iceberg is a shard of ancient Viking pottery telling a partial tale of a hidden mysterious island beyond the ice and mist, that was home to a great treasure and even greater horrors. Thawing in the same block of ice was a rotting flap of skin that refused to be identified but had similar skin patterns to a creature not seen for 100 million years.

Story
100,000 years ago the object hit the lake at the deepest point, quickly sinking into its mile-deep Stygian darkness. The sheets of ice closed, time moved on and the land forgot. But over the centuries, legends grew of people vanishing, of strange, deformed animals and of an unexplained luminescence down in the lake depths. When Marcus Stenson won the lucrative contract to create a sturgeon fish farm on the site of disused paper mill on the shore of Lake Baikal, he thought he had won the lottery and refused to listen to the chilling folktales....

Publisher's Summary
A journey into the deepest, darkest jungles of the Venezuelan Amazon...and a primeval place and time that mankind was never meant to exist in.
Ben Cartwright, former soldier, home to mourn the loss of his father, stumbles upon cryptic letters from the past between author Arthur Conan Doyle and his great-great-grandfather who vanished while exploring the Amazon jungle in 1908.
Amazingly, these letters lead Ben to believe that his ancestor’s expedition was the basis for Doyle’s fantastical tale of a lost world inhabited by long-extinct creatures. As Ben digs some more, he finds clues to the whereabouts of a lost notebook that might contain a map to a place that is home to creatures that would rewrite everything known about history, biology and evolution. But other parties now know about the notebook and will do anything to obtain it. For Ben and his friends, it becomes a race against time and against ruthless rivals.
In the remotest corners of the Venezuela, along winding river trails known only to lost tribes, and through near impenetrable jungle, Ben and his novice team find a forbidden place more terrifying and dangerous than anything they could ever have imagined.

Hooked - will need to read the series now!
Enjoyed the book. found it a little slow to start as it built the story line but wasn't until about 1/2 way through until it started to get exciting. Will probably find myself feel the need to read the next 2 in the series. Sean Mangan also reads for Matthew Reilly, so both authors feel like they have a similar writing style, So if you are looking for another author with similar action, try Matthew Reilly

A must for adventurists
I enjoyed reading this book. It reminded me of my childhood, being swept away in the adventure of Jules Verne & Journey to the Centre of the Earth, as well as the modern Jerassic Park dinosaur fun & mayhem.
The loose historical themes & the prehistoric elements made this a fun adventure to escape into. About to read the next in the series now, it got me hooked.

Great adventure storytelling and Sean Mangen is doing his gravelly best to tell it. I'm sure he could read a shopping list and make it sound menacing and mysterious. I wish this could be made into a movie!

🦖🦕Awesome book🦕🦖
🦕🦖 A first for this author & it won't be my last.
For a lover of Jurrassic Park I took a chance on this book and so glad I did.
Once all characters were introduced the book flowed smoothly.
I couldn't put it down it's after 1am & I needed to finish it, so it speaks for itself as well past my bedtime.
If you love dinosaurs, excitement & BEING THERE! Read this book.
