Publisher's Summary

Humankind may have won the battle, but a new threat looms larger than ever before....

Earth's armed forces have stopped the Lanky advance and chased their ships out of the solar system, but for CDC officer Andrew Grayson, the war feels anything but won. On Mars, the grinding duty of flushing out the 20-meter-tall alien invaders from their burrows underground is wearing down troops and equipment at an alarming rate. And for the remaining extrasolar colonies, the threat of a Lanky attack is ever present.

Earth's game changer? New advanced ships and weapons, designed to hunt and kill Lankies and place humanity's militaries on equal footing with their formidable foes. Andrew and his wife, Halley, both now burdened with command responsibilities and in charge of more lives than just their own, are once again in humanity's vanguard as they prepare for this new phase in the war. But the Lankies have their own agenda...and in war, the enemy doesn't usually wait until you are prepared.

As Andrew is once again plunged into the chaos and violence of war with an unyielding species, he is forced to confront the toll this endless conflict is taking on them all, and the high price of survival...at any cost.

A Change of Pace

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you're a fan of the Frontlines series, this book may take you by surprise. The tone and pacing are quite different when compared with previous instalments, and overall it's rather uneventful. There are a number of inconsistencies in the timeline that give the sense that this book was rushed into publication by the editor. For example, the battle at Arcadia is mentioned at having occurred 3 years prior at one point, and later it's recalled as 5 years in the past.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Points of Impact?

The introduction of truly impressive offensive weaponry that is capable of defeating lankies. It showed that human ingenuity, which we so pride ourselves on, continues to persevere in the face of such a formidable opponent.

What aspect of Luke Daniels’s performance might you have changed?

His narration speed. I kept checking the settings of the app as the first few chapters sounded as though he was narrating at 1.5 x speed.Constable Guest's voice also changed distinctly in this instalment.

Any additional comments?

Despite the lack of action, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Marko Kloos has used his platform to put some wonderfully insightful comments about the impact of battle on the mental health of front line personnel.

Good listen.

Enjoyed the series. Good action and story. Moved from full action to more in depth character development towards the end.

Great Mil Scifi story but a bit short

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Short and sweet, good scifi action.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

More of the same stuff, nothing new here, feels like a buffer story as not much is actually pushed forward.

Any additional comments?

Feels like a novella set in the universe not a standalone book. Not much is pushed forward in the war with the lankies which was a bit disappointing. Luke Daniels is brilliant as usual and is an enjoyable book, just craved more.
