Sometimes a character is so flawed they are no longer believable. Nate Temple is one such character. When he gets the upper hand fighting bad guys, he monologues until the bad guys get the upper hand again. The bad guys are not plausible either -- any one of them would have killed Nate the first time they met him. Perhaps while Nate was monologuing. He spends most of the story ignoring every tool which might allow him to prevail, including his magic. The book gets less interesting after enough "Jesus Christ! This guy is too stupid to live!" moments.

the mc is supposedly a genius with a perfect memory yet the author constantly makes him seem like a dense idiot with little to no ability to connect the simplest of dots. I was honestly hoping for a better characterization. the overall plot and storyline are great but the mc had finally killed the series for me.
