Story
A weekly newspaper dedicated to the weird and the wonderful (but mostly the weird), The Stranger Times is the go-to publication for the unexplained and inexplicable. At least that's their pitch. The reality is rather less auspicious. Their editor is a drunken, foul-tempered and foul-mouthed husk of a man who thinks little of the publication he edits. His staff are a ragtag group of misfits. And as for the assistant editor...well, that job is a revolving door - and it has just revolved to reveal Hannah Willis, who's got problems of her own.

In its imaginative freedom and raising of eternal human concerns, it is one of the world's great novels.

Publisher's Summary
With the versatile voice talent of William Gaminara, acclaimed novelist Kim Newman explores the darkest depths of a reinvented Victorian London. It is 1888, and Queen Victoria has remarried, taking as her new consort the Wallachian Prince infamously known as Count Dracula. Peppered with familiar characters from Victorian history and fiction, the novel tells the story of vampire Geneviève Dieudonné and British spy Charles Beauregard as they strive to solve the mystery of the Ripper murders.
Anno Dracula is a rich and panoramic tale, combining horror, politics, mystery, and romance to create a unique and compelling alternate history.

I endured this book
I wanted to like this book. I liked the idea of it. But it was pretty awful. The narrator was good. The story is disjointed and bizarre. Too many characters, and many just felt contrived. Anyone who was anyone in the late 1880s gets a mention, fictional and not. I feel uncomfortable with Jack the Ripper's victims being included - they were real people with tragic lives and horrific deaths, used and cheapened by the author here. And using Dracula in the title is like click bait - he doesn't make an appearance until half an hour before the end, and is easily overcome.

A well-loved story given new life
I have read and reread ANNO DRACULA at least a dozen times. William Gaminara's excellent performance adds a new dimension to a story I love. I strongly recommend this audiobook to those new to the Anno Dracula series and those already familiar with it.

Masterfully done.
Gaminara bring Newman’s masterpiece to aural life. The last truly great vampire/Victorian novel of the 20th century masterfully acted/read & done justice. Scoop it up if you haven’t already.
