Publisher's Summary

It has been 40 years since the publication of this classic science-fiction novel that changed the way we look at the stars and ourselves. From the savannas of Africa at the dawn of mankind to the rings of Saturn as man adventures to the outer rim of our solar system, 2001: A Space Odyssey is a journey unlike any other.

This allegory about humanity's exploration of the universe, and the universe's reaction to humanity, was the basis for director Stanley Kubrick's immortal film, and lives on as a hallmark achievement in storytelling.

watch out for Authors spoiler

Excellent book, great reader. Arthur c Clark was ahead of his time.Author's comments at the start gave some of the story away. Still loved it.

Interesting.

An interesting imagining of space exploration, AI, and first contact.
I struggled with the narration, as the voice was so soft and somewhat like someone reading a bedtime story, I found I needed to have it quite loud to understand clearly.

Made more sense than the movie

Having loved the movie. But was puzzled by the baby etc etc.....reading or listing to the book. Made it all make sense. I have listened to a few novels now. Its very clear why ACC is one of the greats!!

Absolutely Brilliant

I’d always heard of 2001 and knew the basic plot but had never read or watched the movie. It’s so much more than I was expecting. A fabulous story keeping you thinking and wondering.
Thanks to earlier reviews I skipped the author forward which has some minor spoilers. Suggest do the same and come back to it at the end.

Perfect companion to the film but stands on its own feet

Such a fantastic reading to accompany a fantastic book. One of the most stirring and important sci-fi novels of all time

After all these years, it's still got it!

So glad I finally got to read the original. The narration is excellent, especially the creepy Hal voice. Considering whether to pursue the next book..but unfortunately it's not on Audible 😪
