Editorial reviews

Safe Harbor is a lesbian romance and the first of seven stories in the Provincetown series.

Narrated with breathy uplift by Nicol Zanzarella, we follow Provincetown’s new deputy sheriff, Reese Conlon, a tough, smart, beautiful, and suddenly available woman. Sherrif Conlon’s swagger puts the women of Provincetown in a tizzy, but it is the brilliant Dr. Victoria "Tory" King who ultimately wins her affections. Yet the flame of new love is often at its brightest right before it flickers and dwindles down to nothing. Will the pair’s passionate relationship sustain the ordinary pains of regular life?

Several other subplots are interwoven in this poignant - and often very steamy – "slice of life" story.

Publisher's Summary

A mysterious newcomer, a reclusive doctor, and a troubled gay teenager learn about love, friendship, and trust during one tumultuous summer in Provincetown. Reese Conlon, LtCol USMCR, is the new sheriff who has heads turning amidst speculation as to who will be the first woman to capture her attentions. Doctor Victoria King has been betrayed by love once and refuses to risk heartbreak again. Brianna Parker, the teenaged daughter of Reese's chief, fears her father’s wrath when he learns that she loves another girl. As these three women struggle to live and love in freedom, they risk their hearts and souls to give one another a safe harbor.

Excellent, wonderfully unique characters

I've listened to the Provincetown series multiple times, adore it. Radclyffe creates such unique and nuanced characters, and I think that's underappreciated to a degree. Reece is a wonderful and fascinating character and for me, really breaks the mould in terms of the usual "tall dark and handsome" archetype. Watching how she becomes a pilar to her community and an example of duty, honour and integrity really fleshes out these stories as more than just steamy romances novels (and boy are they that as well, mercy). Radclyffe cares about bringing each character to life and her intelligence shines through in her attention to detail when it comes to the medical, military and criminal aspects of the story. This first book is endearing. The way Reece and Tori get together, it's borne of mutual respect, admiration and profound empathy that cuts through a whole lot of suffering and isolation and it's refreshing (and don't worry there's still plenty of lust thrown in).

I must say Nicol's voice to me, IS Provincetown. She gets my unreserved praise for narrating this and the rest of the series, I get the sense that she really throws herself into telling the story and really cares about the delivery. Her vocal range is amazing and listening to her narrate is truly a joy in and of itself. Nicol and Radclyffe, love it!
