Publisher's Summary

Random House presents the audiobook edition of Rising Strong, written and read by Brené Brown.

The physics of vulnerability is simple: if we are brave enough often enough, we will fall. This is a book about what it takes to get back up and how owning our stories of disappointment, failure and heartbreak gives us the power to write a daring new ending. Struggle can be our greatest call to courage and Rising Strong our clearest path to deeper meaning, wisdom and hope.

Brimming with first world problems

I listened to this with an open mind. I’d never read any of Brown’s books but was keen to learn what all the ‘buzz’ was about.
Unfortunately, this never hit the mark for me. By the end, I still didn’t have a clear understanding of what the rising strong process involves. I get the ‘face down in the arena’ bit, but I was left thinking that perhaps Brown doesn’t really understand adversity.
The anecdotes that were meant to serve as examples served only as a catalyst for some major eyerolling and the cry ‘meanwhile, some people have real problems!’
The examples included:
Arguing with your husband
Having a messy roommate (for one night!)
Someone sending you a passive aggressive email.
So hard to listen to when you’ve experienced real pain and the need to get up and face the world day after day despite it.

Rising Strong Review

I've been working in international marketing for 29 years in 14 countries. I've "done" an incredible amount of personal development work. I got hit with huge business corruption that was a personal attack by people closest to me against me. I've improved in the last 15 years but, I've been still stuck in key areas that I nor others have uncovered. When I as global expert falls, with mystery and confusion attached my wires got tangled in my brain and heart. The cost to me emotionally, those close to me and finding a way to create my new future has been blurry, foggy and painful. I've been diving deeply the past two months into Brene's work. I've transformed more in the past two months than the combined 29 years. I'm very much in a bit of each state of The Reckoning, The Rumble and The Revolution plus more in various areas of my life. My eyes are focused on absorbing Brene's work through this book, plus I've read Daring Greatly and Daring To Lead. I'm committed to get this work deep into my bones and share Brene's work with all those I can.. Brene, Rising Strong will be the first fundamental tool for human loving and growth I gift every new and existing person I mentor in my business. From the bottom of my heart I truly am grateful for giving myself a permission slip to dive deep, get messy in the middle and be brave in the process of Rising Strong. Thank you so much Brene, you can't imagine the God send you've been to me. Marci

I wanted to like it.

Some good parts but I couldn't fully engage. Perhaps needs a PDF for the "process".

Just what I needed after a break up

Brenè’s voice is great and the book is better than I can say. I’ve learnt a process I’m going to turn into my revolution and learn daily. It was the perfect book to listen to after someone has left you even though you wanted to commit and work through it. It helped me feel like less of a failure and more courageous. Thanks Brenè your work is important and life saving.

Owning all of who you are

Everyone has a story, you can call it good or bad.
I'd express them as neither, we as individuals make up a story based on our parents, our family, our friends, our teachers, our environment point of views. Past experiences, weather we like them or hated them.
This book helps us to go within, be honest how that made us feel and rumble (understand) and express by writing it down and acknowledging how it helps us to get where we need to be or disregard it because the story was just something we made us to help us through that situation. Be brave enough to own all of who you are and what your truly capable of if your willing to rumble.
Great book, Great read, Just by reading it you'll have altered how you move forward in life.

Always thought-provoking

I really enjoy Brene's books. I learn something new about myself every time I listen, and somehow she always seems to tap into something I've been feeling but couldn't articulate. This wasn't quite as enjoyable to listen to as when she's speaking to a live audience (in The Power of Vulnerability, for example), but I'm so glad she narrates this one. I said to my therapist the other day that I think Brene lives inside my head now - 'If you're going to have anyone in your head, you could do much worse than Brene Brown!' she responded.
