Publisher's Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Quiet, the Sunday Times and New York Times best seller by Susan Cain, will permanently change how we see introverts - and how you see yourself.

Our lives are driven by a fact most of us can't name and don't understand: whether we're an introvert or an extrovert. This defines who our friends and lovers are, which careers we choose and whether we blush when we're embarrassed.

At least a third of us are on the introverted side. Some of the world's most talented people are introverts. Without them, we wouldn't have the Apple computer, the theory of relativity and Van Gogh's sunflowers.

Yet extroverts have taken over. Shyness, sensitivity and seriousness are often seen as being negative. Introverts feel reproached for being the way they are.

In Quiet, Susan Cain shows how the brain chemistry of introverts and extroverts differs and how society misunderstands and undervalues introverts. She gives introverts the tools to better understand themselves and take full advantage of their strengths.

Critic Reviews

"I can't get Quiet out of my head. It is an important book - so persuasive and timely and heartfelt it should inevitably effect change in schools and offices." (Jon Ronson, The Guardian)

"Susan Cain's Quiet has sparked a quiet revolution...perhaps rather than sitting back and asking people to speak up, managers and company leaders might lean forward and listen." (Megan Walsh, The Times)

"Quiet is a very timely book...maybe the extrovert ideal is no longer as powerful as it was; perhaps it is time we all stopped to listen to the still, small voice of calm." (Daisy Goodwin, The Sunday Times)

HR pre-requisite

Any HR professionals should listen to this book prior to getting involved in recruitment or setting personal policies. It’s bizarre that some discriminate the introverts in an age where gender discrimination is unacceptable.

Insight into every human being you know, including yourself

A well choreographed, finely balanced, multi-dimensional account of a very deep and rich subject area. Quiet helped me understand what makes human beings act various different ways in various different circumstances at various different times. I've been applying insights to myself, my children with joyful results. I'm keen to apply this knowledge to my group of friends and colleagues, to share it with anyone who'll listen in pursuit of making a better map of humanity. What I learned from reading Quiet makes me want to shout from the rooftops!!

Helped me understand myself.

This book has really helped me understand myself for so many years I didn't really understand why I was the Way I was and try to force myself to be something I wasn't. This book has really helped me come to peace and given me tools to help me live easy life with more self acceptance

The best book I've heard on Audible - just great!

Beautiful narration, and story telling. The content seems well guided by academic research, and will inform all readers/listeners on understanding yourself as an introvert or how better to understand one if you are not.

Quiet - quietly consumed

This took me a while to read (in paperback) although the content is great. so the audio book helped me to finish it off in a couple of days.

Very insightful must read

This book helped me accept and understand a lot of things about myself that society has made me feel ashamed of. Very insightful. I wish this had been on the reading list at school. Absolute must read.

Outstanding book and narration

A must-read for all introverts. The way you view yourself will change dramatically. It's a well-written and well-researched book.

Also, the narrator is so in tune with the tone of the book I had to check if she was the author. Hands down she is the best narrator I've listened to so far. Great experience.

Packed full of science and emotion

Wonderful book that helped me make sense of the world as we know it. More importantly it helped me understand myself and how I relate to the world and what I need to look for to be happy.
