The last five hours almost make the rest worth it

I'd not be surprised to discover that "Places in the Darkness" started out life as a taught novella. Its sci-fi premise is simple but effective, and the book really comes together in the last five hours. Unfortunately I feel that taught novella has been unnecessarily and excessively overstuffed in order to obtain novel status. Seriously, even Peter Jackson would consider this thing overlong.

The narration is very good, with a wide variety of character voices provided by Robin Miles.

If you happen to find an abridged version of this audiobook in the future, I'd recommend taking a look.
