Critic Reviews

"With a cast of characters that covers the whole spectrum of London life, Dickens weaves a tapestry of tales that are by turn funny, moving and tragic." (School Library Journal)

"David Timson makes the cavalcade of contemporary types compellingly real." (The Times, London)

"The fact that Dickens is always thought of as a caricaturist, although he was constantly trying to be something else, is perhaps the surest mark of his genius." (George Orwell)

Dickens Doesn't Disappoint

Love the language, the story and the Narrator. Every character was bought to life with it's own recognisable voice and furboiles. I will be enjoying this book many more times.

Crowded, sprawling but very well written

This is a marathon of a book. I did not enjoy some of the sarcastic early humour when Dickens ridiculed the machinations of members of the upper classes and nouveau riche, but some of the characters and scenes in the book were wonderful.

The pronouncements of Betty Higden on physical activity and age are great truths and ahead of their time.

Not a book to read in one sitting.

Dickens never disappoints

Thoroughly engrossing as always with Charles Dickens. Usual stellar narration by David Timson who always enhances whatever he is reading
