Publisher's Summary

Factfulness: The stress-reducing habit of carrying only opinions for which you have strong supporting facts.

When asked simple questions about global trends - why the world's population is increasing; how many young women go to school; how many of us live in poverty - we systematically get the answers wrong. So wrong that a chimpanzee choosing answers at random will consistently outguess journalists, Nobel laureates, and investment bankers.

In Factfulness, Professor of International Health and a man who can make data sing, Hans Rosling, together with his two longtime collaborators Anna and Ola, offers a radical new explanation of why this happens and reveals the 10 instincts that distort our perspective.

It turns out that the world, for all its imperfections, is in a much better state than we might think. But when we worry about everything all the time instead of embracing a worldview based on facts, we can lose our ability to focus on the things that threaten us most.

Inspiring and revelatory, filled with lively anecdotes and moving stories, Factfulness is an urgent and essential book that will change the way you see the world.

Excellent subject well delivered

Great narration and great content. Distills and cuts through a lot of the noise we hear everyday to give a real perspective on the state of the world and what is important to focus on. It may not be new to those with a critical mind and it provides great data to back up the reality we are in. I have recommended to anyone I think will listen!

Excellent, entertaining and encouraging

What a brilliant book. Wonderful for anyone who needs to be more persuasive with facts at work, but more importantly- it changed my mind about how to view the world. I always considered myself open minded and curious, but this shows that I still have far to go, and armed me with tools on how to always improve my understanding, and help others be more I intellectually flexible.

Patronising, cherry-picked half truths

DNF.
Patronising, cherry-picking facts and information without actually going in depth about what it actually entails to be "middle income" ($2 a day) among other things, and just imagine how 'lucky' all those females are who finished primary school?! I don't think I could even do my 2x tables when I finished year 6, let alone be taught many vital ideas. I could go on and on, but I thought I would keep my annoyed ramblings to myself. Maybe, because I scored 10/13 from his "all impressive" quiz, this book wasn't aimed at me.
I will be returning this

A must-read

It seems cliche to say that some books will change you and your view of the world. This is one of those. A great interpretation of the world backed by data and calling out some current erroneous believes misled by human biases. Recommended by Bill Gates, a must-read for everyone.
