Publisher's Summary

Most of us have no idea what’s really going on inside our heads. Yet brain scientists have uncovered details every business leader, parent, and teacher should know - like the need for physical activity to get your brain working its best. How do we learn? What exactly do sleep and stress do to our brains? Why is multi-tasking a myth? Why is it so easy to forget - and so important to repeat new knowledge? Is it true that men and women have different brains? In the New York Times bestseller Brain Rules, Dr. John Medina, a molecular biologist, shares his lifelong interest in how the brain sciences might influence the way we teach our children and the way we work. In each chapter, he describes a brain rule - what scientists know for sure about how our brains work - and then offers transformative ideas for our daily lives. Medina’s fascinating stories and infectious sense of humor breathe life into brain science. You’ll learn why Michael Jordan was no good at baseball. You’ll peer over a surgeon’s shoulder as he proves that most of us have a Jennifer Aniston neuron. You’ll meet a boy who has an amazing memory for music but can’t tie his own shoes. You will discover how: Every brain is wired differently. Exercise improves cognition. We are designed to never stop learning and exploring. Memories are volatile. Sleep is powerfully linked with the ability to learn. Vision trumps all of the other senses. Stress changes the way we learn. In the end, you’ll understand how your brain really works - and how to get the most out of it.

Fascinating & Informative

Knowing how the brain works John knows how to maintain your interest and attention. I loved that all conclusions were drawn from scientific testing.
It was interesting to learn that all boys inherit their mum's X chromosome, never their dad's. I also found the research on men's & women's emotional responses fascinating. As women we are setup to respond to & absorb the detail with men only having the ability to get the gist & he speculated that if men had the same ability that they would probabaly respond in the same way to women.
If both could appreciate & value the other's response it would lead to better outcomes in corporations & in relationships
Interesting research, fascinating book highly recommended for those that love learning about our amazing brains!

Narrated like a kids' book

The author ruined it by narrating like he's reading to a 4-year old.
It's supposed to be a book about the brain, not a colouring book.

Great book

A must read for pretty much every adult!
Super informative and well research book on HOW the different parts of the brain functions. John presents an amazing understanding on the main functions of the brain and doesn't hold back the truths about limitations in research or function. He is a great narrator as well, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will be using it to better my life 👍

Fantastic

I read the original version of this book years ago, and reading it again is such a great reminder of how incredible our brains really are. A great book to learn from, in bite sized brain chunks.

This book has changed my life

I listened to this book first in 2020, and twice after,

First time, I was recovering from a major back operation where they fused three of my vertebrates together, with rodes and screws.

And I was struggling through many physicall and mental challenges.

This was one of the first books that helped me find my way out of the fog, the fog of pain killers and depression.

Walking and stress handling, these are things I benefited directly and physically from.

I lost 14 kg, and I keep maintaining a very healthy weight because of my new walking habit.

Understanding how anything works, helps you extract more from it.

This is a great book,

I can't recommend it enough.

Just read it..

It's even entertaining..

don't bother

Unless you believe every supposition that those of the evolutionary creed throw at you, you will find this fanciful. Some interesting facts smattered amongst a whole load if guess work.
