This is one of the most enchanting and heartwarming series anyone could hope to listen to. That it is narrated by Christopher Timothy Was a very welcome surprise. Christopher made the character of James Herriot famous in the BBC series, and to hear his familiar voice in this audible recording was wonderful. I cannot recommend this highly enough.
A magical story that comes alive in this wonderful narration. I am going to start listening to the other books immediately.
was sad when it ended. the narrator was excellent at capturing and depicting the scene
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I love this book - it's evocative of life in the Dales and of times long lost. Herriot delivers a rich sensory painting with beautiful descriptions. If you're squeamish, it might not be something to listen to over a cheese and pickle sandwich at lunchtime.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
Christopher Timothy's narration is superb, and the audiobook is segmented by short bursts of instrumental music to punctuate the story. However, I tried both streaming and playing from my mobile download and there were gaps in sentences, when the narration cut out, and there were frequent jarring moments where the recording 'stuck' like a record on a turntable before continuing. Given the quality of the story, and the performance, this was highly disappointing.

I have read the books and watched the films and TV series over and over, so was delighted to see Christopher Timothy as the narrator chosen for the Audible book.
The stories were wonderful as ever, the narrator perfect, bringing them to life in the voice of 'James' from the TV series - the editing was not.
Oddly timed interjections of music jarred rather than helped the mood, and the recording frequently stalled, jerked, stuttered, and therefore missed out chunks of the narrative. I felt this was not just annoying, but surely insulting to Mr Timothy who had worked so hard to give a super performance, each character brought beautifully to life.
I was so disappointed with this one - bad editing ruined what could have been a five-star audiobook.
