Story
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

Hugh van Cuylenburg was a primary school teacher volunteering in northern India when he had a life-changing realisation: despite the underprivileged community the children were from, they were remarkably positive. By contrast, back in Australia Hugh knew that all too many children struggled with depression, social anxieties and mental illness. His own little sister had been ravaged by anorexia nervosa. How was it that young people he knew at home, who had food, shelter, friends and a loving family, struggled with their mental health, while these kids seemed so contented and resilient?

Story
In Everthing Is F*cked, Mark Manson turns his gaze from the inevitable flaws within each individual self to the endless calamities taking place in the world around us. Drawing from the pool of psychological research on these topics, as well as the timeless wisdom of philosophers such as Plato, Nietzsche, and Tom Waits, he dissects religion and politics and the uncomfortable ways they have come to resemble one another. He looks at our relationships with money, entertainment, and the internet, and how too much of a good thing can psychologically eat us alive.

Wow
Best audiobook I’ve ever listened too. Content is a little too religious for me but I understand why Dr Peterson uses the bible extensively to reinforce his views. You don’t have to be religious to see wisdom, you just need an open mind. I cannot daily anything in this book, and will now make it a habit to read at least once a year.

Listening again ...
I have now started my second reading of '12 Rules for Life …' by Jordan Peterson.
I am very impressed overall with this book. His rules are excellent, pertinent, practical and essentially common sense (or at least they would be if presented a generation or two ago before the world went mad thanks to the serious indoctrination by the fascist left through the MSM, Hollywood and Academia).
Peterson may be beginning to redress this horror - the Youtube post of his interview with Cathy Newman has already been viewed over 7 million times since it was posted only 1 month ago. Ms Newman was totally humiliated, but it was all her own doing. Peterson's calm, measured, respectful and highly articulate response is well worth watching.
I am not convinced all his arguments are valid though. Certainly I agree with most of his conclusions and I hope to better appreciate them through a second 'read' (on Audible). But I am convinced that some of his pre-suppositions are totally flawed. For example, he seriously (sadly! Really! He needs to read more!) believes in Darwinism. And his pop-psychology approach to the Bible is also lacking in depth and this may reflect his upbringing to some extent, but it also reflects a lack of serious scholarship here (despite his generally outstanding, extensive and comprehensive reading in general).
It is most notable in his lack of knowledge of Jewish and Rabbinic scholarship, which at times leads to a somewhat superficial take on the narratives and sayings of the New Testament.
Despite these minor misgivings I strongly recommend this book.
