Publisher's Summary

Can Jane Tennison uncover a serial killer?

The fourth in the Sunday Times bestselling Jane Tennison thrillers, MURDER MILE is set in 1979 at the height of the 'Winter of Discontent' when economic chaos has led to widespread strikes across Britain.

Jane Tennison, now a Detective Sergeant, has been posted to Peckham CID, one of London's toughest areas. As the rubbish on the streets begins to pile up, so does the murder count: two bodies in as many days.

There are no suspects and the manner of death is different in each case. The only link between the two victims is the location of the bodies, found within a short distance of each other near Rye Lane in Peckham. Three days later another murder occurs in the same area. Press headlines scream that a serial killer is loose on 'Murder Mile' and that police incompetence is hampering the investigation.

Jane is under immense pressure to catch the killer before they strike again. Working long hours with little sleep, what she uncovers leaves her doubting her own mind.

Narrated by Anna-Louise Plowman (Holby City, Black Sails and Stargate SG1).

Murder Mile

Great thriller. Well written. Well performed. The only thing I didn’t like was the Jamaican accent of one of the characters. The book kept me enthralled to the end even if it was a bit predictable. This is my first Lynda La Plante book but I think I might look to ‘read’ the Jane Tennyson books chronologically.

disappointing, DNF

I am a fan of Lynda and her Tennison series but this one just did not engage me. Somewhat middle ground between Jane's meteoric rise and her later achievements that was somehow quite flat. Pity.

Great story but narrators accents awful.

Great story which demonstrates the times in police work and discrimination against women. Really enjoyed the book. Shames the narrators accents were so poor.

Nice detective story

I enjoyed this book although it was very predictable. The lead character Jane was lovely but the continued misogynist and homophobic police was a part I found difficult. It was set in the 1970’s so fitted.

Gruesome details could be off putting

Beautifully narrated. Good to see the early development of Jane as a detective. Good plot.

Murder Mile

Thank goodness policing has changed for the good since this story was written in the 70’s. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing until I checked the book details and realised how old this book was. So homophobic in parts. I think Lynda La Plante has gotten better since she wrote this book. I found it weak and had lots of holes in it.. the voices were also hard to work out who was who. Overall I was disappointed

Great story

This was an excellent storyline. Plenty of intrigue and suspense threading through the story. worked out the possible perpetrator about 3/4 of the way through. Had a twist in the tail at the end. Enjoy Lynda's books.
