Publisher's Summary

Meditation: It's not just a way to relax, or to deal with life's problems. Done correctly, it can be a way to radically encounter bliss and to begin - and sustain - real transformation in ourselves.

In Mindfulness, Bliss, and Beyond, self-described meditation junkie Ajahn Brahm shares his knowledge and experience of the jhanas - a core part of the Buddha's original meditation teaching. Never before has this material been approached in such an empowering way, by a teacher of such authority and popularity.

Full of surprises, delightfully goofy humor, and entertaining stories that inspire, instruct, and illuminate, Mindfulness, Bliss, and Beyond will encourage those new to meditation, and give a shot in the arm to more experienced practitioners as well.

A fantastic guide

This audio book (and for that matter the written version) provide some of the clearest and most complete guidance on how to meditate and how your perception will change as you progress through the different stages. This is the primary book I rely on to assist with my understanding of how to progress my practice. I cannot recommend it enough.

A massive help on the path of Dhamma

A book that was recommended by a friend, came at exactly the right time. An in-depth insight on the path of meditation and Dhamma.

One that I will read again and again so that I can soak up all of the knowledge and insight.

I recommend this to any serious meditator and especially anyone who was completed a Vipasanna course.

Good book but missleading title

This book is more a catechesis on Buddhism rather than a general book on mediation. It goes to show that Buddhists can be as dogmatic and chauvinistic as fundamentalists in any other belief system. It highlighted my own intolerance as I was more looking for advice on how to deepen my own meditation and contemplative pray, and not so ready for a book on Buddhist apologetics that derides my own and other traditions. That being said, this a good book. It contains some very good advice for meditation in the context of thai buddhism, which might also be useful in the context of other traditions. It provides a map for what is called consolations in my own tradition. The map is in a foreign language and Ajahn often uses Sanskrit or Thai words, often little or no translation, which I found a little hard to follow. I can't complain as my own tradition uses Ancient Greek and Latin terms even when the English word carries the same meaning; "Kinosis" vs "self-emptying" for instance. There appear to be parts of the book where Ajahn is speaking from direct experience and these parts are excellent.

Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu!

Inspirational description of Ajahn Brahm's experiences of the selfless state of Jhanas during deep Buddhist meditation. I feel a little bit enlightened having just listened to this book!
