Publisher's Summary

Jory Keyes leads a normal life as an architect’s assistant until he is witness to a brutal murder. Though initially saved by police Detective Sam Kage, Jory refuses protective custody - he has a life he loves that he won’t give up no matter who is after him. But Jory’s life is in real jeopardy, especially after he agrees to testify about what he saw.

While dealing with attempts on his life, well-meaning friends who want to see him happy, an overly protective boss, and a slowly unfolding mystery that is much more sinister than he could ever imagine, the young gay man finds himself getting involved with Sam, the conflicted and closeted detective. And though Jory may survive the danger, he may not survive a broken heart.

Addictive listening

The Audiobook for A Matter of Time Vol 1 ended up being really enjoyable to listen to. I wasn't sure initially whether the voice for Jory fit the character, but I liked it more and more across the storyline. The distinctive voice for Sam was a definite fit! The only thing I didn't enjoy about this audio was the musical interlude between each chapter - it was painful to listen to.

I started the A Matter of Time series as I've just finished listening to the Marshals series on audio (so good!), and just had to read more on Sam Kage.

I was a little undecided about how to rate this, as there were some frustrating aspects of the storyline. It is constantly mentioned how gorgeous Jory is, he could be a model and EVERYONE wants him. Men want to sleep with him, and women gravitate towards him and instantly add him as one of their besties. HOWEVER - it was very addictive, and I couldn't stop listening so I went with 4 stars.

Lots of drama between these 2, and Sam is just so indecisive at times when it comes to Jory and how to manage what he feels. I enjoyed all the drama, that was part of what made it so good, I wanted to know what was going to happen next.

Another winner by Mary Calmes

Perfect amalgamation of story and narrator! I generally enjoy this author and definitely found this particular story engaging. However I’ve sometimes found that my internal ear and the audible narration do not always match and so was somewhat nervous. Narrator Paul Morey successfully - and beautifully - conveys Jorey Keys’ irrepressible nature and quirkiness, traits essential to the plot and an understanding of Jorey and his travails through life and love!

Love me some Jory

I’ve listen to this book a couple of times a year sense I first discovered it. Mary Calms is my go to to comfort read.

Jory & Sam are some of my favourite MC.

This a low agonist book about two very strong personalities coming together, one openly gay and another discovering that maybe Jory is what he needs.

This isn’t the best audio book around. There are some real big editing issues, but I think it just lends it character.

Undecided

Have bought book 2 but only to hope there is a happy ending for this couple. Sam is a bully and over bearing thug who discounts Jory as an adult. Why does the author make Jory a survivor when escaping those that want to kill him but pathetically weak when it comes to his love Sam? Gosh I hope Jory is a bigger person in the next volume.
