Story
Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

Story
Strong-willed and full of hope, Leo strives to learn more of the magic he has read so much about. He's heard of invisible links in his world, and hidden rifts to other realms filled with creatures and stones of power. But Leo's family is stuck in an impoverished city. He performs backbreaking farm work beside his older brother, a rebellious and cunning thief, but nonetheless a brother whom Leo would trust with his life. Leo believes everything will change for the better when he begins work as a bookbinder and finally leaves the dreadful farm.

Publisher's Summary
A new episode in Feist's massively successful Riftwar saga.
From the endlessly inventive mind of one of fantasy's all-time greats comes a spellbinding new adventure featuring old favourites Jimmy, Locklear, and Pug.
It is nine years on from the aftermath of Sethanon. There has been peace awhile, and it's been needed. But news is feeding through to the people of the Kingdom of the Isles that deadly forces are stirring on the horizon. The bringer of the latest tidings is Gorath, a moredhel (dark elf).
The bloodletting has started. Nighthawks are murdering again. Politics is a dangerous, cut-throat game once more. At the root of all this unrest lie the mysterious machinations of a group of magicians known as The Six.
Meanwhile, renegade Tsurani gem smugglers, a rival criminal gang to the Mockers led by someone known only as The Crawler, and traitors to the crown are all conspiring to bring the Kingdom of the Isles to its knees.
Critic Reviews

General Pesonal Overview
I loved it Raymond E. Feist has an awesome imagination and the ability to deliver it in story format is phonominal.
Peter Joyce has a very easy to listen to voice. He also has the ability to make it come alive with varity of voices for all the characters, he does an outstanding preformance.
One of the most memorable parts for me is when Gorath and his party reached Elvandar and meets the Queen.

Wow!
Once again a wonderful story and an array of fantastic characters and creatures. Losing one’s self in an imaginative book I find is the best way to relax. No tv for me! About to start the next book in the series. One minor criticism Raymond, please stop with the he said so often. This didn’t happen in the previous books so it makes me wonder about the editing?
Again wonderfully narrated by Peter Joyce. Thoroughly recommend.
