Publisher's Summary

The first great war of Ovira is over, and the most hated king in centuries is dead, but his nephew still lives. However, Basen had nothing to do with the destructive war his uncle started. In fact it was his uncle who exiled him and his father to the territory of their enemies, where Basen's dreams of becoming a legendary mage now fade, as he must work all day just to eat. His only chance at regaining some semblance of the life he thought he would lead is to join an elite school that trains, houses, and feeds a thousand new young men and women each year. But little does Basen know that his determination will put him at the center of a war even bloodier than the one he'd barely managed to avoid.

Not terrible, but terribly average.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The writing style seemed to me like it should be classed as a young adult, ignoring the adult themes of death and the seemingly endless lust of the characters.

I found it really difficult to listen to the audio book because of the repetitiveness of benign explanations of simple things and complete lack of things important to the story.

The characters were rather bland and typical of fantasy, especially the main character who was written to seem earnest and kind, but more often, to me at least, came across as arrogant and prideful in his attempt to better others - rather than himself.

Would you be willing to try another book from B.T. Narro? Why or why not?

I will not, i enjoyed the premise of the story and could handle a while the characters, but it seemed like so many other stories with over used characters that it could not hold my interest.

The same story better written i would happily read or listen to again.

What three words best describe Brad C. Wilcox’s voice?

He pulled off the main character well i though, cocky and mildly arrogant with a touch of constant flirting.

But his vocal inflections were so at odds with the story that at times i wasn't sure if someone was talking or he had gone back to the lack luster descriptions - which i put down to the author as much as a narrator for the poor structure of the sentences as much as the narrator missing important vocal ques and inflections.

Was Kin of Kings (The Kin of Kings: Book 1) worth the listening time?

Yes and no, I did enjoy the story in some parts of the book.

I really liked the premise of the world and magic system in it as it is more unique than a lot of other fantasy books you will usually come across in nice small ways.

Any additional comments?

I understand completely that writing a book is difficult and takes a lot of time, patience and dedication, and I also do not want to take anything away from the author or narrator, but there are many other book better written and read out there to enjoy.
