Publisher's Summary

Homicide detective Levi Abrams is barely holding his life together. He’s reeling from the fallout of a fatal shooting, and his relationship with his boyfriend is crumbling. The last thing he’s prepared for is a serial killer stalking the streets of Las Vegas. Or how he keeps getting thrown into the path of annoyingly charming bounty hunter Dominic Russo.
Dominic likes his life free of complications. That means no tangling with cops—especially prickly, uptight detectives. But when he stumbles across one of the Seven of Spades’s horrifying crime scenes, he can’t let go, despite Levi’s warnings to stay away.
The Seven of Spades is ruthless and always two moves ahead. Worst of all, they’ve taken a dangerously personal interest in Levi and Dominic. Forced to trust each other, the two men race to discover the killer’s identity, revealing hidden truths along the way and sparking a bond neither man expected. But that may not be enough to protect them.
This killer likes to play games, and the deck is not stacked in Levi and Dominic’s favor.

Great .

I’m glad I did not gave up on this one . Really great misterie and the crinminal is worthy of respect.
I did had to speed up the listening. And t hat made it easier to finish it, the pace was a bit slow even though the narration was great.
I will listen to the second book.

Great start for a new series

This is a great start to the new Seven of Spades series, and there was really no time wasted getting right into it. From the get go it just grabs the reader and sucks them in. I started this one thinking, let me just listen to a few chapters, and ended up nearly halfway through the audiobook before I’d put it down. That’s almost four hours of non-stop listening. What really made this story for me was the narrator, Wyatt Baker. He did a stellar job performing all aspects of the police drama, including the lovey-dovey and sexy times. Mr. Baker is a well-rounded performer and he kept me totally invested in the mystery that is the Seven of Spades, and the slow-burning attraction between Levi and Dominic.

Levi is a homicide detective dealing with a serial killer and a bad breakup, simultaneously. In addition, the killer seems to “like” Levi. The killer, in this case, is more of a vigilante and it makes it very hard to feel too bad for his victims. But regardless, the guy must be stopped and Levi is tasked with getting it done. At the same time, Dominic, a guy who bartends and hunts down bail jumpers, is unfortunate enough to find himself in the middle of the case, and left dealing with the not so cuddly detective…who just so happens to check every one of his boxes. Even though this story is quite the slow burn, with most of the focus on the investigation and police work, Wyatt Baker’s performance lets you know that the steam factor is bubbling just beneath the surface and when it blows, it is going to be hot…and it was, it totally was, and worth the wait.

Considering this is book one in the series, and the series is called the Seven of Spades, and the killer is known as the Seven of Spades, it should not have come as a surprise to me that the mystery was not solved at the end of this installment. But it did, and I was. I totally thought it was going to be all neatly packed away and solved, getting us ready for the next adventure, but instead we are left with a small cliffhanger and I was left looking out for book number two. Read this folks, you will be dragged in by realism in the story, and if you prefer to listen to the audio, by the tenor of the narrator’s voice. Both the story and the audio are a solid four stars and I highly recommend this to everyone.

Loved the story, shame about the narrator....

This series is one of my very faves, mainly due to the whodunit element admittedly, but the hotness between Levi and Dominic adds to the overall excitement and nail-biting moments. Unfortunately, for me anyhoo, the choice of narrator [new to me] was not a wise one. His interpretation of Levi's voice in particular was very wooden...almost as robotic as the electronic voice for the Seven of Spades killer. I liked his Dominic voice, but that was about it so not sure whether I'll buy another audio if the same narrator is involved. 3.5 stars rounded up.

A fantastic start to a new thrilling series

I’m so glad that this book is now available on audio!
A fast passed thriller that I read in one sitting and now have also listened to the audio version in one sitting also.
Cordelia Kingsbridge really knows how to bring realistic characters, romance and a perfectly paced plot together.
This is the first audio book I have listened to narrated by Wyatt Baker and I have to say he was perfect.
5 stars all round
