Editorial reviews

Editors Select, May 2015 - Years ago, as I was just starting to explore the genre of sci-fi, my best friend (a huge Crichton fan) urged me to read Jurassic Park - the basis, of course, for the blockbuster film franchise. I'm not too ashamed to admit that the movie terrified me as a kid, but in many ways, the novel is even more frightening, as it relies more heavily on the science that makes Jurassic Park possible - and very unstable - adding an unsettling dose of reality to this cautionary tale. I'm so excited to relive this book in audio as it’s released unabridged for the very first time with the incredible Scott Brick narrating - providing the perfect measured, authoritative voice for such a science-heavy listen. And with Jurassic World coming this summer, there's simply no better time to dive in to this classic. - Sam, Audible Editor

Critic Reviews

"Scott Brick brings a chilling calm to the complex story with his deep, even tone and clear enunciation.... He does a particularly fine portrayal of John Hammond, the creator of the controversial park, giving the character a raspy edge that suits the dark agenda beneath his grandfatherly facade." Many differences from the movie

Heavily philosophical in parts, and a little preachy, but the storyline is terrific and different enough from the movie to be suspenseful and interesting. I don't know if Speilberg's vision makes it easier, or if it's an impediment to really imagining this incredible world, but appreciating both as separate pieces of art would be my advice.

By the end I wanted the raptors to win.

What a great concept and terrible execution. By the end of this story I wanted the raptors the eat all but two characters - everyone else was so annoying and one-dimensional at best.

Let's get the performance out of the way first - I'd happily listen to Scott Brick read the telephone book (if these still existed). Apart from the Muldoon character whose, Nairobi accent sounds Jamaican, all characters are well acted and differentiated.

Apart from Gennero and Wu characters, all others are one dimensional and often that dimension is obnoxious. I'm sure that Crichton must never have met a child in his life - the 8 year old Lex comes across as three year old with no impulse control who is so incredibly annoying that I'd personally feed her to any dinosaur who showed an interest.. The 12 year old Tim seems to age ten years during the story - having adult conversations by the end.

There are lots of close calls with hungry dinosaurs and very unrealistic escapes.

I finished the book but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone or listen to it again.

Great story

Awesome audiobook that's actually really different from the movie.

It was very detailed and informative for a fictional text and very addictive.

Highly recommended...

Great! But...

Would have given this 5 stars, excellent story, greater technical detail...but for one, incredibly annoying, whiny child.
