It is a thrilling and cautionary tale of splendor and ruin, of faith and hubris, and of civilization and barbarism. Story
The year is 1964, and it's a week before Hitler's 75th birthday. Nazi Germany won the Second World War, Churchill is living in exile in Canada, Joseph Kennedy is President of the United States, and King Edward and Queen Wallis are puppet monarchs of the United Kingdom. In this dimension, history took a very different turn in 1942 to the one we are familiar with.

Napoleon's ultimate defeat was to determine the history of Europe for almost 100 years. From the frozen wastelands of Russia, through the brutal fighting in the Peninsula to the blood-soaked battlefield of Waterloo, this book tells the story of the dramatic rise and fall of the Napoleonic Empire.

Gripping story of America's tumble into war in Vietnam
- By Nick Hughes on 17-01-2024
Publisher's Summary
‘Russian success has been somewhat aided by the strategy of Herr Hitler, of Corporal Hitler… Even military idiots find it difficult not to see some faults in his actions.’
–Winston Churchill (2 August 1944, in the wake of the complete destruction of the German Army Group Centre in Belorussia)
Here is one of the best-selling history titles of 2009. Examining the Second World War on every front, Andrew Roberts asks whether, with a different decision-making process and a different strategy, Hitler’s Axis might even have won.
Were those German generals who blamed everything on Hitler after the war correct, or were they merely scapegoating their former Führer once he was safely beyond defending himself? In researching this uniquely vivid history of the Second World War, Roberts has walked many of the key battlefield and wartime sites of Russia, France, Italy, Germany, and the Far East.
The book is full of illuminating sidelights on the principle actors that bring their characters and the ways in which they reached decisions into fresh focus.
Andrew Roberts’s Masters and Commanders was one of the most acclaimed, best-selling history books of 2008. His previous books include Salisbury: Victorian Titan (1999), which won the Wolfson History Prize and the James Stern Silver Pen Award for Non-Fiction, and Hitler and Churchill: Secrets of Leadership (2003), which coincided with a four-part BBC2 history series. He is one of Britain's most prominent journalists and broadcasters.

An excellent and detailed examination of WW2 in the North
Lucid and engaging prose replete with great detail and references that tells an oft told history in a way that adds depth and colour. Wonderfully performed in a way that compels further listening and draws one into the Storm. The book’s focus is the war in North (Europe, Atlantic, Middle East and Russia) leaving the Pacific and Far East covered somewhat cursorily as seemingly secondary theatre that can appear as an afterthought. That said the sweep of the book from the Allies & Hitler’s Grand Strategy through the operational to the tactical and individual is superb. Brilliant and well worth the time spent listening!

Best narration of a non-fiction ever!
On top of the rich historical content with superb analysis, the accents that narrator Chris could apply to the soldiers and leaders of the different nations made this production a 5/5! Well done to all responsible. It helped me gain an even greater appreciation of what was a momentous era in world history. Thank you!

Pretty Good but needs proof reading
Pretty Good but noticed that the narrator mixed up his world leaders sometimes. First Churchill with Hitler regarding his Churchills thoughts on Midway (here attributed to Hitler) and then Churchill praising the Chindits at Yalta to Roosevelt and Churchill?. Both noticable in Chapter 8.
