Editorial reviews

Courtroom dramas have always consumed the public's attention. There is a certain high-stakes drama that takes place in the halls of justice. Ann and John Tusa have collaborated to capture those emotions in their historical study of The Nuremberg Trial. The Nuremberg Trial isn't some bland textbook; the Tusas' personable narration delivers to listeners the countless personal stories at the heart of one of history's most infamous court battles. A deft performance by Ralph Cosham only serves to accentuate the care Ann and John Tusa have taken in relaying the facts of Nuremberg with humanity and insight.

Publisher's Summary

Here is a gripping account of the major postwar trial of the Nazi hierarchy in World War II. The Nuremberg Trial brilliantly recreates the trial proceedings and offers a reasoned, often profound examination of the processes that created international law. From the whimpering of Kaltenbrunner and Ribbentrop on the stand to the icy coolness of Goering, each participant is vividly drawn.

Excellent and thoroughly engaging

An edifying book of remarkable scope that examines the Nuremberg Trials in much detail, with a particular emphasis on the procedural and tactical challenges the convening parties faced. The subject I assumed I would find least interesting - the legal basis and consequent articulation - was one of the more engaging themes, expertly presented by the authors. One of the best books on any historical subject I’ve listened to.

Thoughtful, Important and Poignant

In current times we can feel so entitled, we forget that we aren't any better than those who came before us and if we don't learn about things like the wars and the way people acted in it we are doomed to repeat it. Only now we have as leaders small petty men and women, we as people are so complacent and so determined to be outraged by small things we and our leaders are not the Titans of they're times, we today refuse to treat those we disagree with honour and fairness like was shown in this book, Yet most of whom we disagree with are far less evil than those who ran the Reich.

The reader's voice is emotive without being to judgemental, gives dignity to those who through actions denied dignity to others without elevating or over emoting one side or the other.

If you have any interest is the world wars we see this chapter is one of the most important and defining moments showing in peace what can be achieved through justice that isn't blinded by greed, ambitiousness and nationalism. That said it is a give there is more enough warning against those things in this story.

Incredible detail.

The best book I’ve listened to on the subject of Nuremberg. The most detailed account of the trial. It detail does get boring at some points especially with some of the lesser known criminals. But you cannot fault the book for being thorough.

Definitely the best book related to the main Nuremberg trial.

Enjoyable

Thoroughly detailed but never boring, sprinkled with occasional humour. As long as it was, I would have appreciated some direct transcripts of what was said, not just the author's summary and opinion on what was said.

Absorbing, well informed and very detailed

A fascinating, detailed and very well researched account of the famous (or infamous) Nuremberg Trial, sure to be appreciated by historians and armchair-historians alike. The narration is ably performed, though the narrator has an unusual habit of bouncing onto proper nouns when starting a sentence with an "a-", such as pronouncing "a-Jackson", "a-Goering" and so on, which can be a little confusing.

Painful

Painful narration, slow, cumbersome story of what was an important chapter in human and law history.

Illustrating the importance and basis of international law

In a period where histories lessons are largely forgotten this account of the Nuremberg trial, it’s foundations and the arguments of law used to legitimise proceedings comes as a timely reminder that civilisations ought to aspire to better.

A well thought out and told account of an important moment in western history.

Detailed coverage

Those in the law and students will possibly get more out of the highly detailed coverage of the Nuremberg trial. The back room negotiations and moral debates are as fascinating as the excuses shocking.
An important work.

Captivating

I couldn’t get away from this one, it was captivating and encapsulating without any of the modern day far left connotations of nazism that the main stream media use, very informative and highly enjoyable
