Publisher's Summary

Here is the updated and expanded edition of the best seller that changed millions of lives.

The science is clear. The results are unmistakable.

You can dramatically reduce your risk of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes just by changing your diet.

More than 30 years ago, nutrition researcher T. Colin Campbell and his team at Cornell University, in partnership with teams in China and England, embarked upon the most comprehensive study ever undertaken of the relationship between diet and the risk of developing disease. What they found, when combined with findings in Campbell's laboratory, opened their eyes to the dangers of a diet high in animal protein and the unparalleled health benefits of a whole foods, plant-based diet.

In 2005, T. Colin Campbell and his son Thomas M. Campbell, now a physician, shared those findings with the world in The China Study, hailed as one of the most important books about diet and health ever written.

This heavily expanded edition of their groundbreaking book features brand-new content, including the latest undeniable evidence of the power of a plant-based diet, plus updated information about the changing medical system and how patients can benefit from a surging interest in plant-based nutrition.

The China Study: Revised and Expanded Edition presents a clear and concise message of hope as it dispels a multitude of health myths and misinformation. The basic message is clear. The key to a long, healthy life lies in three things: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The new information includes the following:

  • Updated research on heart disease, obesity, diabetes, cancer, autoimmune disease, and other diseases
  • Updated supplementation recommendations
  • A new chapter about the media's coverage, or lack of coverage, of plant-based diet research

PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying reference material will be available in your My Library section along with the audio.

Loved it! Will listen to it again.

If you could sum up The China Study, Revised and Expanded Edition in three words, what would they be?

Startling research results

What was one of the most memorable moments of The China Study, Revised and Expanded Edition?

I'm amazed by the research results gathered from so many reputable research organisations and that this has not been more widely disseminated to the public and, more surprisingly, that the results have not made it into public policy after so very long.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It's a long book so I couldn't listen to it all in one sitting but I was very eager to get back to it each time.

Any additional comments?

Due to the heavy focus on research results, it's not the kind of book I would have the patience to trudge through reading, but I thoroughly enjoyed it as an audio book.

Monotonous

The study was interesting but I couldn’t handle the monotonous tone of the reader. I couldn’t bear to listen to him.

Dense but worth it

This book was amazing and consolidated a lot of things that I had learnt at university as well as from independent research.
Some of the science/jargon in this book can be quite intimidating! But once you source check a few references you gain a trust in what goes over your head and the intentions of the author.
I really enjoyed learning about the environment in which this information exists and the difficulties it has in being perpetrated.

Makes gigantic assumptions

This book is biased toward veganism and cherry picks the science.

I was very interested in this book, but it didn't answer the fundamental question about plant proteins exerting the same effects that where being exonerated. In fact it misled me to the appendix by suggesting it would, and then didn't. It also intentionally misled the results by stating facts which are unfounded.

Its a real shame, because I was so interested and I was very hooked after the first chapter, there were some promising and revealing study results that were well cited, but the author fell down a hole trying to promote his ideology. Returned.

1 chapter was enough

Too much repetitive..........
Same dialogue in all chapters
I, personally, didn’t like this book.

Best suited as a hardcopy or companion to hardcopy

A lot of data referenced, which might be useful to students, but some studies are too outdated to be included as references; even though the content is engaging and thought provoking. The narration is on point most of the way, sounding interested and understanding of the material.

A strange title too, given that the China study itself comprises a small part of the information - but it is defining in the theme of the overall text.

As a former student of Nutritional Science, I find it a good book on a personal level, and can understand the author's frustration; but it does get a little long in the tooth and sounds like an epic whinge a lot of the time from about half way through as the Author reflects on his own history with the subject matter. It's catching - and you might feel depressed, or angry or just as frustrated as the Author a lot of the time. Not a good bedtime listen.
A hard copy would be better, making skipping to or looking up what you want to get to easier.

If you are considering a change in diet away from animal proteins, this is an excellent reference and starting point from an author who has researched and formulated methods of validating/quantifying research to be implemented on an International scale; making it an invaluable personal reference if you are inclined towards the subject matter (mainly, not eating Animal Proteins).

I'd like to rate it higher, but it's just not engaging material for an audiobook, and the Author has decades of gripe to get through, this volume being just one episode.

Tedious

I enjoyed all the discussion of science and health. I couldn’t finish listening due to the constant stroking of the authors ego and putting down other researchers. I found the author arrogant to the point I couldn’t continue listening.

The way we eat.

This is a fantastic book if only more people would “get it”.
Get the understanding that what you eat is paramount to your health.
