Publisher's Summary

A new epidemic is sweeping the country. Some people call it ADHD, scatter brain, or brain fog. Some simply say they just don't feel like themselves - and haven't for a long time. People are thinking and feeling worse than ever. Why? Because our brains are not getting the support they need to produce the essential brain chemicals that keep us energized, calm, focused, and inspired. In fact if you look at the way most of us live, it's almost as though we've chosen a lifestyle deliberately intended to undermine our brain chemistry.

Fortunately there is a solution. The Brain Fog Fix is a three-week program designed to help you naturally restore three of your brain's most crucial chemicals: serotonin, dopamine, and cortisol. Rebalancing these three brain chemicals will, in turn, enable the rest of your brain's chemistry to reach optimal levels. You will find yourself thinking more clearly, remembering more accurately, learning more quickly, and unleashing the floodgates of your creativity. You will also find yourself feeling more optimistic, calm, energized, connected, and inspired. The good news is that this is easier than you think. Instead of trying to ambitiously overhaul one aspect of your life entirely with some difficult-to-maintain resolution, begin by making small and achievable changes in many different areas of your life.

"If I've learned one thing from the thousands of people I've treated, it's that you have to take the whole person into account if you want to think and feel better." (Dr. Mike Dow)

I eat so healthy!!!! how can I relax? my mind won't leave me alone.

Some good tips but some big problems

This book does have some things to offer. The main points are good guides - exercise, sufficient sleep, nutrition, less sugar and more meditation are all great ways to reduce brainfog.

However, there are a few key problems. First and foremost, many of the points lack sufficient evidence since the data lacks context. Some things the author positions as certain do NOT have the evidence behind it. Secondly, the author sounds melodramatic and preachy.

Here are two examples of many instances in this book where the author does not provide clarify in his evidence. Firstly, he says that it’s found that people who drink Diet soft drinks tend to be fatter than those who drink soft drinks with regular sugar. He does this to emphasise the point that artificial sweeteners aren’t good for you. However, what if it’s because those people are overweight to begin with and they choose to drink diet drinks because of it? In that case, artificial sweeteners may not be the cause but just a correlation. I can’t know if this is true or not with the information provided, so remain unconvinced either way. The author could have avoided this. How many people are in these studies? Did they control for other factors? What are the motives of people choosing these drinks?

A second example “the number of people with Alzheimers in the USA is currently X, but in Y years is predicted to be Z”. The author accompanies this by saying it’s becoming more common, however I am not sure if this is true, since there is no context given. Are these numbers higher since it’s just our ageing population? Or is the rate within the group of older people higher? I can’t know since the author hasn’t given me a percentage or additional context.

The author sounded over dramatic at times and foreboding. I understand that books are for entertainment purposes as well as information, however he would have been more convincing if his evidence was clearer. “Do you really want to take that risk?” after providing limited evidence for something seems foreboding.

I’d say don’t bother spending time on this book, and if the author sees this - please consider writing a second edition outlining the evidence more clearly and considering correlation/causation and context when gathering and displaying data.

I’m not sure if there’s a reference list of the studies he used but am trying to find it. It would help me check facts and find my own conclusions.

I already downloaded stop selling.

This book has some useful items in it, nothing that is new nore groundbreaking, about dieting and general healthier habits but mostly around dieting. If you're looking for a more wholistic book I'd recommend: The 6 Habits of Growth, it's way better formulated and beneficial.

I found 40% of the book was usefull but put forward poorly making 25% of that 40 realistically useable and 60% of the book felt like an advert to buy this book. It got a bit frustrating as I went through as I kept saying "I've already downloaded the book stop trying to sell it too me"

One last fundamental issue is the author doesn't appear to acknowledge thier privilege and position.
There is little help in constantly recommending top shelf organic foods when most people can not afford to just replace their pantries with organics.
This leading to the book to come across as very out of touch and almost as if it's selling a pyramid scheme rather than workable advice.

couldn't finish

it reads as judgemental and promises numerous fixes without much of a solid basis. might be good for those that need a little encouragement but not for those with serious problems.

Life changing

This book found me at the right time. I was struggling with my mental health and learning that my dad has Alzheimer’s disease with dementia. This book helped me understand some of the habits and behaviours that can lead to dementia. It gives advice on how to eat better and improve your lifestyle to feel sharper and more awake to life. Highly recommended

This is a very novel pursuit of a book….

Epidemic of Processed foods « hidden chemicals » in diets. Author spreads misinformation instead of current psycho-psychiatric industry standards. Very poor literature
