Publisher's Summary

One afternoon - after another failed attempt to get motivated to exercise - I (accidentally) started my first mini habit. I initially committed to do one push-up, and it turned into a full workout. I was shocked. This "stupid idea" wasn't supposed to work. I was shocked again when my success with this strategy continued for months (and to this day). I had to consider that maybe I wasn't the problem in those 10 years of mediocre results. Maybe it was my prior strategies that were ineffective, despite being oft-repeated as "the way to change" in countless books and blogs.

I was right.

Is there a scientific explanation for this?

As I sought understanding, I found a plethora of scientific studies that had answers, with nobody to interpret them correctly. Based on the science - which you'll find peppered throughout Mini Habits - we've been doing it all wrong.

You can succeed without the guilt, intimidation, and repeated failure associated with such strategies as "getting motivated," New Year's Resolutions, or even "just doing it." In fact, you need to stop using those strategies if they aren't giving you great results. They don't work because they all require you to fight against your subconscious brain (a fight not easily won). It's only when you start playing by your brain's rules and taking your human limitations seriously--as mini habits show you how to do - that you can achieve lasting change.

Excellent Behaviour Modification Tools

I'm a 43 year old father of 3 and no beginner when it comes to motivation, behaviour modification and psychology, having read many books on these subjects.

I have listened to this book twice and started using the mini habits concept a month ago. It's very simple, logical and so far, very effective. I'm cautiously optimistic that here lies the tools that I've been searching for to become more productive and happier. Since implementing mini habits I have exercised daily, practised piano daily, read a book daily and more. I look forward to seeing how my 'stupidly small' mini habits stick when life gets chaotic.

I have noticed how this technique is improving my mindset in other areas besides my mini habits and generally helping me get more things done. Win!

Stephens other book, How To Be An Imperfectionist, is also excellent and pairs well with this one, if your a perfectionist.

Thank you Stephen for your tenacity and writing this book! 👍

Good, but could’ve been shorter

I did really enjoy the concept of this book and I’ve experienced success with mini habits before. Even though it’s a short book, it was repetitive, so could’ve been even shorter. It would’ve made a good TED talk. Also- the narrator is good, but his pronunciation makes it sound like he’s saying ‘many habits’ instead of ‘mini habits’, which was distracting. Worth a listen, though.

I couldn't stand the narrator

The unnatural style of the the narrator made this unlistenable for me. Truly painful to listen to. I couldn't make it past half an hour. Returned the book.

Great content, monotone narrator

This book has great strategies to build habits. It just a shame that Daniel Penz’s voice is so monotone.
I have implemented the steps to regain a healthy lifestyle and reduce my fatigue levels by starting 3 mini habits. 1 glass of water each day, 1 minute of Cardio and to crochet 5 stitches every day. These are so achievable that I am able to do them everyday and exceed them on most days. I have been doing this for almost 3 weeks and starting to see the benefits in other areas of my life too.

Really useful book

Really useful content for habit-forming. I found this very helpful. If you have read books like atomic habits, or tiny habits, this one is a great addition as well.

This book has been a great help to me, making goals small enough to achieve within daily life and not being an inconvenience.
