Just okay

This was my least favorite Suzanne Ferrell Edgars family story. The main characters were just annoying. I found look to be condescending and irritating. Abby did not come across as a strong female character. I think a good portion of that sentiment is due to the narration. The way Abby was voiced was very childlike and weak. She should have been pushing back on Luke’s attitude a heckuva lot more with than she did - especially when he couldn’t get her best friend’s name right. Her best friend was in danger, they had no idea where she was, and they suspected she was being tortured. Yet, he disrespected the friendship consistently. I really was annoyed by that. Found myself rolling my eyes at the dialogue a lot. There was also something not quite right with the production. Sometimes the narrator sounded like he was in a very small room because the voice would get very loud suddenly. It was only worth the listen to advance the story and introduce the characters that may be needed in later novels in the series. I may have thought differently if I had actually read the book instead of listening to it. I think the narrator weakened the story.

Great!

Any additional comments?

This story can be disturbing if you focus on the crime that is being committed. Human trafficking is abhorrent so that was a tough part to get through. However, the author was effective at bringing out emotions in the listener so that you hate the bad guy/gals and love the good guy/gals. The romance that develops between Abby and Luke keeps that story interesting, light and romantic. I like how Luke protects Abby, but at the same time, she is not a helpless woman that can’t use the skills and training she was given. I really enjoyed this audiobook. I also like the narrator, Paul Boehmer. He does a great job with the character voices and personalities so that it’s easy to follow. I must also tell you that I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the narrator in exchange for an unbiased review.
