Story
A series of apparently random murders draws amiable, old-school Detective Mick Matlock into a world of sex, politics, reality TV and a bewildering kaleidoscope of opposing identity groups. Lost in a blizzard of hashtags, his already complex investigation is further impeded by the fact that he simply doesn’t ‘get’ a single thing about anything anymore. Meanwhile, each day another public figure confesses to having ‘misspoken’ and prostrates themselves before the judgment of Twitter. Begging for forgiveness, assuring the public 'that is not who I am'.

Story
For amiable city trader Jimmy Corby money was the new rock n' roll. His whole life was a party, adrenaline charged and cocaine fuelled. If he hadn't met Monica, he would probably have ended up either dead or in rehab. But Jimmy was as lucky in love as he was at betting on dodgy derivatives, so instead of burning out, his star just burned brighter than ever. Rich, pampered and successful; Jimmy; Monica; and their friends lived the dream, bringing up their children with an army of domestic helps.

The ultimate pop quest. Ninety-five thousand hopefuls. Three judges. Just one winner. And that’s Calvin Simms, the genius behind the show. Calvin always wins because Calvin writes the rules. But this year, as he sits smugly in judgement upon the mingers, clingers and blingers whom he has pre-selected in his carefully scripted ‘search’ for a star, he has no idea that the rules are changing.

Story
"I write this sitting at the kitchen sink" is the first line of a novel about love, sibling rivalry, and a bohemian existence in a crumbling castle in the middle of nowhere. Cassandra Mortmin's journal records her fadingly glamorous stepmother, her beautiful, wistful older sister, and the man to whom they owe both their isolation and poverty: Father. The author of one experimental novel, and a minor cause celebre, he has since suffered from writer's block and is determined to drag his family down with him.

Story
In Las Vegas to cover a motorcycle race, Raoul Duke (Thompson) and his attorney Dr. Gonzo (inspired by a friend of Thompson) are quickly diverted to search for the American dream. Their quest is fueled by nearly every drug imaginable and quickly becomes a surreal experience that blurs the line between reality and fantasy. But there is more to this hilarious tale than reckless behavior, for underneath the hallucinogenic facade is a stinging criticism of American greed and consumerism.

Story
Few books have had such an impact as Wild Swans: a popular best seller and a critically acclaimed history of China that opened up the country to the world. Through the story of three generations of women in her own family - the grandmother given to the warlord as a concubine, the Communist mother, and the daughter herself - Jung Chang reveals the epic history of China's twentieth century. Breathtaking in its scope, unforgettable in its descriptions, this is a masterpiece that is extraordinary in every way.

Publisher's Summary
It’s the 1st of June 1914 and Hugh Stanton, ex-soldier and celebrated adventurer is quite literally the loneliest man on earth. No one he has ever known or loved has been born yet. Perhaps now they never will be.
Stanton knows that a great and terrible war is coming. A collective suicidal madness that will destroy European civilization and bring misery to millions in the century to come. He knows this because, for him, that century is already history.
Somehow he must change that history. He must prevent the war. A war that will begin with a single bullet. But can a single bullet truly corrupt an entire century?
And, if so, could another single bullet save it?

I love a good plot
Twist and turns again and again. Well done Mr Elton. It's a theme that so many of us think of doing - what if I could go back in time and change history with a single bullet. This has been done with sniper like precision and a thinkers touch. Bravo!

A ripper read
What a great story, Ben Elton is a fantastic writer. As the storylines come together and the twists and turns kick in, I found myself totally caught up and desperately wanting to know what happens next. Jot Davies' narration is perfect and bring it to life. As soon as I finished it I restarted just to pick up all the clues I missed along the way.

Unmissable
I listened to this book whilst I was lying in the sunshine on a sun bed whilst sailing. This book kept me gripped and engaged throughout, and moreover it made me think about what would have happened if....
Ben Elton writes a ripper of a book, that keeps you coming back for more, this book took me to a new level of engagement and I couldn't put it down. This book takes twists and turns, and you won't be disappointed. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone to listen to, the narrator is fantastic. Totally unmissable...buy this today, you won't regret it....

Clever, engrossing, race to the end!
My first Ben Elton book and it was a cracker. It expands on an intriguing time-travelling premise, sets a great pace and is cleverly told. Definitely "hard to put down" and has a lot of twists and turns.

A very Ben Elton book
I’ve returned to Ben Elton having read and enjoyed all his early stuff.
This book is very much in the same mould, namely great concept and thought provoking ideas but paper thin characters that I just never really believe in.
Also, like any time travel book or film, you have to stop thinking about any of it after a while or it will just do your head in. Which sort of means you feel like there are just plot holes all over the place.
Anyway, was fine, narrated well and kept up a level of engagement.

It just kept surprising, teaching, and thrilling. Particularly valuable to those with a fascination with world history. Possibly the best fiction I have ever read. The narrator is also amazing. Voice acting is utterly believable.

Best of Ben Elton's books
Most memorable moment for me is the initial dialogue between Bernadette and Stanton. Also the reliasation that some good things will be lost by what he will set in train.
