Publisher's Summary

Lola has every reason to be interested in who Paddy de Courcy is marrying - because although she's his girlfriend, she definitely isn't the bride. Heartbroken, she flees the city for a cottage by the sea. But will her retreat prove as idyllic as she hopes?

Not if journalist Grace has anything to do with it. Grace knew Paddy a long time ago. But why can't she forget him? Grace's sister, Marnie, might have the answer but she also has issues with the past. Her family is wonderful but they can't take away memories of her first love: a certain Paddy de Courcy. What will it take for Marnie to be able to move on?

And what of the future Mrs de Courcy? Alicia is determined to be the perfect politician's wife. But does she know the real Paddy de Courcy?

Four very different women. One awfully charming man. And the dark secret that binds them all....

No prepositions!!

This book has some of the most annoying writing ever!!! A third of the book doesn't use prepositions which is like listening to someone read a grocery list. I persevered because it was rated so high but the author really needs a rap over the knuckles for using such poor skills. Other than that third it's not too bad.

Too many skipped words.

I loved many of this authors other books, but Marian has written this book by skipping most pronouns and a/the, similar to when Bridget Jones talks to herself. Although I have no problem reading this book, as your mind fills in the gaps- listening to it is very, very annoying! I turned it off after a few chapters and didn't finish it. I'm so glad this type of writing is no longer in fashion. Drove me around bend (see annoying isn't it, now imagine a complete book written this way)..

So disappointed

I love Marian Keyes but the writing style in this book drove me mad. I can only assume it was written as a diary so conjunctions were left out, ‘the’ rarely was mentioned. I tried awfully hard to like this story but I drifted off and thought of other things every time I put it on and had to back track but still missed the connection.

Don’t waste a credit

The style of writing is terribly hard to listen to and NOT like other Marian Keyes books at all. If this had been the first book of hers I would have never read another. Even though the style was awful, I wanted to hear the story through as the story itself was ok, good even but half way through, it changed to a totally different book!! I shuffled forward and sure enough, it was a whole other book.

Worth persisting with.

The first character Lola doesn’t speak in full sentences which is intensely irritating initially. However she is only one of three characters in the book, and the annoying grammar is worth persevering with because this book is funny and clever. It had me laughing out loud and also sighing with sadness. There were a few unexpected plot twists and plenty of interesting characters.

I love it.

I loved this book so much. I finished today and actually felt really sad that it was over. I am really going to miss Lola, Grace and Marnie. There is a hole in my life now!
