Rita and Rosie Stevens are only nine and five years old when their widowed mother marries a violent bully. Under pressure from her new husband, she is persuaded to send the girls to an orphanage.

It is not long before the powers that be decide to send a consignment of orphans to their sister institution in Australia. Among them, without their family's consent or knowledge, are Rita and Rosie, the throwaway children.

Goood Story but sad in a few places.

Well read but a dreadful attempt at Aussie accents and a few mispronounced aussie place names. overall however, I enjoyed the story and the narrator.

excellent read

A sad book but probably similar to many real experiences of children separated from true family.

BofB

What a story but is it a story as you hear of this dreadful early life they had when they were sent to Australia - for a Better Life… So heart written & eye opening. Thank you for your expressive writing. 🚐

What a captivating saga!

Fantastic narration - couldn’t stop listening. Took me away on a journey of the sad history after the First World War. Wonderfully written.
