Publisher's Summary

From a distance Felix Fitzwilliam, the son of an old English family, is a good husband and father. But, obsessed with order and routine, he's a prisoner to perfection. Disengaged from the emotional life of his North Carolina family, Felix has let his wife, Ella, deal with their special-needs son by herself.
A talented jewelry designer turned full-time mother, Ella is the family rock...until her heart attack shatters their carefully structured existence. Now Harry, a gifted teen grappling with the chaos of Tourette's syndrome, confronts a world outside his parents' control, one that tests his desire for independence.
As Harry searches for his future and Ella adapts to the limits of her failing health, Felix struggles with his past and present roles. To prevent the family from being ripped apart, they must each bend with the inevitability of change and reinforce the ties that bind.

Intense

A story that makes you laugh and cry and sometimes angry. How hard a life for a parent with a child who has to go through so much.

Enlightening

I love books that teach, as well as entertain. I learned a lot about what it's like to live with an illness. Also, learned a lot about family dynamics, love and acceptance. Thank you!

Unrealistic Character Development

Let me start by saying the narration is fantastic. I forgot I was listening to one person in multiple roles.
The story idea is a good one, but the jumps in character development were bizarre, particularly the husband. The mother's character fizzled out at the beginning of the story in a disappointing way. When she re-enters the story, she's no longer a major character, and her relationship with her son, rather than being changed, is non-existent.

Warm and uplifting

I loved this story about flawed characters who are forced by circumstances to learn to get along, and through doing so, learn about themselves. The characters are likeable and real. Well read.
