Publisher's Summary

The golden skies, the translucent twilight, the white nights all hold the promise of youth, of love, of eternal renewal. The war has not yet touched this city of fallen grandeur or the lives of two sisters, Tatiana and Dasha Metanova, who share a single room in a cramped apartment with their brother and parents. Their world is turned upside down when Hitler's armies attack Russia and begin their unstoppable blitz to Leningrad.
Yet there is light in the darkness. Tatiana meets Alexander, a brave young officer in the Red Army. Strong and self-confident yet guarding a mysterious and troubled past, he is drawn to Tatiana - and she to him. Starvation, desperation, and fear soon grip their city during the terrible winter of the merciless German siege. Tatiana and Alexander's impossible love threatens to tear the Metanova family apart and expose the dangerous secret Alexander so carefully protects - a secret as devastating as the war itself - as the lovers are swept up in the brutal tides that will change the world and their lives forever.

My Favourite Book

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absoulutely and constantly. It captures you in the story and it's the ultimate love story. Death, destruction and a somewhat happy ending.

What other book might you compare The Bronze Horseman to, and why?

I have compared this to Outlander for some reason (according to my Outlander review) and I think its the time setting (war time), the love story, and the strength of the main female characters. Both the female leads are nurses, they lose their families and they find the love of their lives.

What about James Langtonā€™s performance did you like?

He has a strong male voice and a fairly convincing female voice, but for some reason, Alexander comes across as Scottish in this reading. You get used to it and even come to love it.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Too many to choose.... the first meeting, the first kiss, the way Alexander is so protective of Tatiana.

Any additional comments?

I have reread this book so many times in the past 17 years, I nearly know it all word for word. I think Paullina Simons is an incredible author, I have read all her books; The Bronze Horseman series is by far my favourite of hers, as well as my all time favourite books. I would be ecstatic if the following 2 books in the series come out on audio. I did receive an email from Audible recently (25/03/17) saying the Summer Garden was available but apparently that is not true. :( I would highly recommend this book to everyone!!!!!

Love this story

Just the best story I was so happy to see it in audible and can't wait for the rest of the series. I found the voice of Alexander a bit odd more Irish accent than American and I think a female narrator might have been better but I didn't even notice after the first hour as the story is so consuming. Fantastic audiobook
