Story
Lucy Sullivan is 26 and living it up (and occasionally down) in London. Hers is a life of quiet, undisciplined desperation. But when she and three friends visit a psychic for a bit of fun and the woman's predictions start coming true, Lucy is horrified. For the fortune-teller insisted she'd soon be married - within the year, in fact. Not only does Lucy not have a boyfriend, but the chances of getting one are looking slim. Between the bottles of wine, antidepressants and her addiction to self-help books, she's not quite ready to walk, or even stumble, down the aisle sober.

Story
High heels, movie deals, wagon wheels, shoes, reviews, having the blues, builders, babies, families and other calamities... Many think that Marian leads a glitzy life of limos, television, and showbiz parties - but she would argue that she spends the majority of her life writing alone, wearing her PJs, and eating bananas with a laptop on a pillow in front of her. Under the Duvet is a wide collection of her journalism and stories, all personal, closely observed, and painfully funny...

Ahh Marion you've nailed it again !
The whole time I was reading this it felt real ... it felt like a million other women's lives ... including mine ! Thankyou for the incredible ending ... and that eldest daughter ... I'll be doing this one again cause when I like a book I re read it about 🍈5 times and each time I reread yours I learn something about your characters and myself that I didn't realise before. I've lost count how many times I've read Rachel's holiday ... it's usually my road trip Xmas book .. i listen as I drive ..and laugh in places I didn't laugh last time. Can't wait for the next book ..

A great reflection of the modern one eyed relation
Its normally me that gets labeled verbose but in this case this book is about 5 hours too long, the Irish language characteristics move from cute to damned annoying, the author and narrator seemed to have formed a pact to inflict tedium to the extreme.
If you are looking for chicklit you'll probably enjoy the opportunity to wallow in this one sided perspective but a deeper philosophical look tears the plot apart. Who lets their partner walk off for a 6 month asian sex holiday without asking more questions(I don't know a single bloke that would think this was right let alone a female). Not a single question about mental health, the need for personal space and privacy, just an assumption that its about sex.
It could all been avoided with a simple mature conversation and whilst this is fiction, it does paint a picture for future generations that might think its tolerable.
The plus side of the philosophical view is the end result, for those willing to engage in its thought base, it puts sex into a modern perspective. This almost compensates for the dramatically stereotypical one eyed female view that a man cheats when breathing whilst a woman can invite a stranger to her hotel bed and as long as they don't penetrate its perfectly acceptable. For the record I don't think many women hold that view either but the modern world suggests somewhere in the middle needs to be a tolerable outcome.

Amazing narration
The narrator is amazing – I’m not sure I’d have connected to the story the same way had I read this book. This had me laughing and crying and it was a joy to listen to. By the end I felt like I knew the characters personally!
