Publisher's Summary

During the second half of the 20th century, East and West stood on the brink of war. Nowhere was this more evident than in Central Germany, where 10,000 tanks belonging to NATO stood ready to resist a ground attack spearheaded by 40,000 Warsaw Pact tanks. It was a war that never was. But what if it had? How would the opening days of World War III played out?

Team Yankee, the New York Times best-seller by Harold Coyle, presents a glimpse of what it would have been like for the soldiers who would have had to meet the relentless onslaught of Soviet and Warsaw Pact divisions. Using the geo-political and military scenarios described by General Sir John Hackett, former NORTHAG commander and author of World War Three; August 1985, Team Yankee follows the war as seen from the turret of Captain Sean Bannon's tank.

Through Bannon's eyes, and those of the men belonging to his tank heavy combat team, the listener lives through the first 14 days of World War III. The action is vivid and exciting, the tension palpable. Defeat and death are as close as victory.

interesting cold war gone hot book

Writer is a former member of a tank company that was in the area he is writing about. Shows through with the story feeling organic with slang and such. Worth picking up and wasn't as gung-ho America as I expected

Just a bit of fun

Not a bad story. Focus is on pure action, doesn't really do much to explain the political context of the conflict and the ending is quite implausible.

The characters are not especially deep but the narrative gives a good framing of modern warfare in the 1980s.

While the American's suffer some losses the Russians are comically hopeless in all regards when it comes to fighting the protagonists. Perhaps this is realistic given the Russian's performance in Ukraine right now?

Most people regard Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising as a superior book and that will be my next read.

For those familiar with the table top wargame of the same name, this book is worth a listen.

A GREAT -WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN - ADVENTURE

Read the book a couple of decades ago and found this gem on Audable and enjoyed the ride all over again. Narration first class and delivered with military precision.

A must read for all

This novel is so vividly written it feels real. A must read for all, especially those in th armed forces, and particularly those in armoured corps. It should be mandatory reading for all who wish to command soldiers in the field.

A great fictional depiction of armoured warfare.

This book is a great read, taking place in the European theatre in a possible cold war turned hot scenario of the 1980s. Clearly written with accurate detail to tactics and the operation of armoured vehicles. It can be seen to be a motivator for US/NATO armoured crewman to maintain standards and to increase their confidence in their equipment in a possible scenario. Though it is starting to show its age now, it remains a great motivator focused at a combined arms at combat team level. The equipment of the friendly combat team in use is era relevant and includes the M3 Bradley for Cavalry Troops, M1A1 for Tank Troops, M113 for Mech Infantry Platoons, M47 Dragon Anti-tank wpn and associated small arms.

I enjoyed it

It was worth listening to, it filled in some time, I had not trouble becoming involved in the story. The characters and descriptions were good. I would recommend this book.
