Publisher's Summary

Cathy Scarlet and Tom Feather have decided to create the best catering company in Dublin. They have the perfect premises, heaps of talent, and even a few contacts - but not everyone seems as pleased by the idea of 'Scarlet Feather' as they are. Tom's parents are disappointed that he has turned his back on the family business.

Cathy's husband buries himself in work, becoming ever more distant, whilst his mother thinks Cathy should stay at home to look after him. And Tom's relationship with his beautiful, ambitious girlfriend becomes fraught as she struggles to realise her dream of becoming a model. As Cathy and Tom strive to maintain their emotional ties amidst catering triumphs and disasters they are supported - and undermined - by an enchanting cast of classic Binchy characters.

Another Great one!

I loved this book, it is so typical Maeve Binchy & Kate’s narration just makes it. Every book I fall in love with the children, the scenes she sets and I am always sad but feel so light at the end of each one.

Quintessential Maeve Binchy

Scarlet Feather is one of my favourite Bunchy novels, and this reading does it full justice. Simon and Maud in particular tug at the heart strings, and this is a great story about how life doesn’t turn out the way you think it will, but sometimes for the best anyway. This book has some profound things to say about the nature of family, but in typical Maeve fashion it’s done with a lightness of touch that draws you in and makes you laugh even as you’re raging against the world’s injustice. Highly recommend for anyone who wants a great story full of true Irish characters... Muttie Scarlet is a particular favourite of mine!

Heartwrenching

An always brilliant performance by Kate as she always makes you feel like you are listening to a huge cast matches only by Maeve's talent at creating characters, settings and stories.

One of the best.

This is a great story full of interesting characters and Irish humour .
I often burst out laughing. The narration, however let this book down.
The Female characters sound absolutely ridiculous Cathy ,Marcella and especially Maude sound like eejit’s.
Whilst I have read all of Maeve’s books, I will not rush to hear them read by Kate.

favourite book

I read this book many years ago and I loved it. I loved it so much I still have it, with its dog eared pages that are now yellowed, it's cover worn front and back, I have reread the book at least once a year since I bought it. it was my first Maeve book, I went on to buy every book she wrote. I was filled with much trepidation about listening to someone else's voice read it, as the voices of each wonderful character had been etched deep in my mind, with what I thought they would sound like... So.. at first I struggled because of the above reason, to adapt to Kate's version of those voices, but I persevered, and I still loved the book at the end. The only issues I had were 1, Kate did not pause between the parts of each character and it just ran into long sentences, a bit off-putting for me.And 2, all the men's voices sounded like very old men. again off putting. Overall I was not disappointed as it was always going to be a tough sell for me because of my love of the book. Highly recommend!
