Mediocre
I went into this with high hopes, but unfortunately found it too dull to finish. The story spends way too much time focusing on things that are irrelevant to the plot and not enough time building an emotional connection with the characters.

Loved the concept, the delivery left me wanting.
The first half of this book is a bit slow and is much more a tale of grief than one of fantasy. I am glad I stuck with it though, as the second half picks up good pace and made me want to give the next in the series a go.
My only other issue is the age of the characters. Their mid to late teen age, coupled with the subjects dealt with, makes the story feel stuck between adult and young adult fiction.

Intriguing Concept
I dont know where to start, but I definitely found it interesting. The Weather Mages, Beast Masters, Necromancers, LGBT romance and so e strong female characters. These few elements and the story telling are what zi truly enjoyed about this hook. Great narrator too! Well done all round really!

Hidden gem
If you can believe in magic it should not be so difficult to streach the imagination to queer relationships, yet this is one of the few quality fictional universes that contain bisexual, gay, single, childless and hetero characters. Loved the pretense and dissection of love and loss

Necromancers, sapphic romance, bears and death
I quite enjoyed this story.
it is one of the more sex positive YA stories I’ve read, and I love that.
it deals very honestly with loss, grief, addiction, and trauma.
The character development of some characters I felt was lacking. I wanted to feel a connection to characters who weren't the main protagonist, but I wasn't provided with the opportunity.
The different voices used by the narrator were sometimes grating and unnecessary.
All in all, I enjoyed the adventure I was taken on.
