I enjoyed this story probably because I live in Leura and have been familiar with the Hydro Majestic hotel from my early childhood days. I have stayed there throughout my life and seen its ups and downs including the recent renovations. I thought the story which is centred around the family who owned it was a bit loose and could have been tightened up ... it was too drawn out. However, it was entertaining most of the time. I am glad I listened to it even thought the narration could have been better at times.
I regularly listen to audiobooks and with all due respect I've never listened to a worse narrator. The book was so overacted (and badly!) that it was painfully distracting and seriously cringeworthy. The book itself was slow and so much of the story was superfluous. Filler over substance. The reason being, there really was no story. The book is centered around the 'big reveal' at the end of the book. Yet the reveal, which I'll admit was a huge surprise, was as unrealistic as it gets. Plot twists and surprise endings only work if they make sense to the story. They don't work just for the sake of the surprise. Maybe it would've been more tolerable if the book wasn't so over the top in its narration, but either way it was a bad book with a really bad storyteller. I give this book a HUGE thumbs down. Don't waste your time or your credit. Instead (for example) try great audible books like: The Beasts Garden by Kate Forsyth or The Winds of War by Herman Wouk.

This is a great story that gives a bit of insight into a part of history that I was not aware of. A worthwhile read
